Becoming a journeyman pipefitter

Hello all I am a pipefitter and have been for 5 years now. I work for Irwin industries. We are union but I feel not a real union... Would like to see if it is possible to test in to a union or would I have to start on the ground floor?? Any help would be appreciated. Thanx in advance!!

Re: Becoming a journeyman pipefitter

The UA unions around here will let you test to see where you will place in the union payscale. All they ask for is for 5 yrs. experience and to pass the written test into pipefitting. Not sure if you have been a journeyman or apprentence for you 5 yrs, but all I can say is to call your local and ask when they will be testing.I'm not into a union but I have tested for them a while back.
