Re: 6013 dcen

vince, i missed your post, we must have been typing at the same time. i think my answer to that question would have been wrong a few years back. from reading these boards it appears dc/ep has the most pen. if you try 6013 on both poles you should notice the difference in how they burn, my experience is dc/ep runs a lot softer giving the impression of less pen. heres another spool alan.

Re: 6013 dcen

same settings as last tine lads, tig root 130 amps, 3.25 filler 6013 at 120 amps, 4mm filler burned 140 amps. the cap is just as before. alan

Re: 6013 dcen

on this butt, same spool the first filler run i burned a 4mm rod at 140 amps, i think this is the upper limit for me, you arn,t safe till this one is in , i think i can prove that the second filler is again 140 amps , i just slowed down slightly, easier to control. alan

Re: 6013 dcen

Hey there pipe fitter,

Man you are one hell of a pipe fitter, I've been following this thread and looking at your pics over and over and just so amazed with those welds. I'm no pipe fitter, just a welding man here and a 6013 user too with an AC welder but just recently got myself a new DC welder. Now I know using a DC makes welds a lot nicer and a lot easier to apply.

WOW man, your welds are like art to me, well crafted, very uniform and by just looking at them makes me wonder sometimes, will I be able to weld like yours ? lol Have you been welding all your life ????? hahahaha

Thanks man for sharing your expertise, you are an asset to the welding world.

Thanks and stay safe

Re: 6013 dcen

i notice in that first pic of the tig root, the rod tip is in the same position as if i were doing a 2g or 6g root, that is the root coming to the top on the spool. with 130 amps i just waited for a puddle to form at the back of the blued area and moved forward in a circular motion, using the rod to fuse the edges, no dip in this case, what can i say robert pic 4 in this set has a defect sue me alan.

Re: 6013 dcen

the approach i took to repairing that slag hole was tig at 150 amps, its important when using tig that all slag comes out, just a small amount in the weld will blow back on your needle. i just cut a straight line across the defect with a 1/8 cutting disc, this is easier to blend in than a stick repair. heres a few caps. alan.

Re: 6013 dcen

Wow, amazing welds there. I've never run stick DCEN, I'll have to try sometime. I wonder if that's part of why you can start back up without cleaning first.

Alan, I just saw this thread and read the whole thing. Awesome doesn't begin to describe your artistry. Out of curiosity, what machines do you use?

This thread made me want to go buy a 50 lb carton of 6013, it is what I learned on and those welds are amazing.

Should have a sticky so we can find it when the 6013 naysayers come out.

DSW

I realize these are not 7018, but I guess I could use these pics for my Example of a Vert Cap weld

Very nice, what I find amazing is they are so straight and yet it looks like he is wider than the Grove.

Pipe Fitter, I would love to see a video of your cap welds, Thank you for sharing the pics

Re: 6013 dcen

I ran some old 6013 I had in the shop today for the heck of it on DCEN

I think I could get used to it, once I got it dialed in I could run a fair cap with it

Re: 6013 dcen

Wow
I just have to say it, WOW.
I am not a welder , just trained to stick 2 pieces together until the welder gets a chance to make it right.
I found this thread and 2 beers later I have read it all.
I would pay good money just to stand in the corner and watch this sort of thing being done.
2 thumbs up from me.
Regards Chris

Re: 6013 dcen

Got a 10 lb. sealed tin of 6013 x 1/8 I've had for 15 years and will be playin' in the shop this weekend with my old Thunderbolt. Thank you for all the beautiful pics of the most gorgeous pipe welds. You, my man, are an artist.
