Re: 91811 HF Tig Welder FREE 100% working foot pedal MOD!
This is slicker than the proverbial deer guts on a door knob!
The point of getting a cheap machine and keeping the mods cheap is to get the job done with the least hassle and expense. The simple friction operation is brilliant because it has little risk of damaging the switch if the pedal gets kicked or otherwise is pulled hard by accident. A non-electrical remote, besides avoiding wiring and delicate parts, can be quickly repaired with (for example) a bicycle cable and a couple of screw-on cable ends from an auto store. You could vary the pedal sensitivity by trying different diameter rubber rollers. |

Re: 91811 HF Tig Welder FREE 100% working foot pedal MOD!
Here's an idea...use the throttle control of allmost any 90's F/I car, the large cable pull where it pulls sort of like a small pulley....

Re: 91811 HF Tig Welder FREE 100% working foot pedal MOD!
I am trying to think of a way to mount a weeder type finger throttle on my torch, maybe with a locking device for when I find that sweet spot!

Re: 91811 HF Tig Welder FREE 100% working foot pedal MOD!
i made one of these manual footpedals for my little dc tig and it really works great.
i made mine so i didn't have to drill any holes in the machine, i build a little frame around the front of the welder, and i just used a vacumm blockoff over the amp dial, and also my cable is adjustable.. im going build a nicer pedal soon too. thanks for the awsome idea man, i only had to buy the cable and some springs so all done for under 15 bucks. Re: 91811 HF Tig Welder FREE 100% working foot pedal MOD!
I am new to welding and have never used TIG so forgive me if my question is stupid...
Does this mod mean you don't have to scratch start anymore with this machine? |

Re: 91811 HF Tig Welder FREE 100% working foot pedal MOD!
Looks good from my monitor screen. As demonspeeder suggested the pulley would probably get more range. On my 1988 FI, it has a cam pulley. Its supposed to deliever more air to the fuel supply faster.
