RV gate with a man gate inside of it. Anyone have pics?

I have someone that wants me to build a 6' tall x 10' wide single RV gate with a man door inside of it. Just curious what you all have done. Thanks!

Gate meaning what... like a garage door? Or a driveway gate?

I have installed several man doors into sectional over head doors. Is that what you are talking about?

Not getting what you mean by RV GATE.

sounds like he wants a gate with a man door type access to go through without having to open the entire gate. great idea! havent seen one like this my self but should be pretty easy to do, hardest part will be making it look like it is supposed to be part of the gate and not an after thought. love to see what your ideas are

steeleman gets it.

I guess RV gate isn't a term used around here. Usually it is a gate in a fence that you can pull and park a recreational vehicle behind it.

I've built some gates like this for use on a farm. I apoligize for the crudeness of the drawing no cad or solid works here

The ones I have seen with "man" gates built in have a swing for the "man" gate of say...4' incorporated into the design with the remaining 6' swing on the other side. A 12' gate would have 4' & 8' swings. Don't know if this makes sense.

Re: RV gate with a man gate inside of it. Anyone have pics?

i have built a couple. i dont have a pic of it, but the big gate is kept closed by a removable pin. there is a plate on the post and a plate on the gate and pin through them both, theres two of these on each side, one at the top, and one at the bottom.
this was gate was in a driveway and was primarily going to be a ped gate, but they wanted the option of opening it all. so they can open half of the right side, all of the right side, or the right and the left

i knew exactly what you were talking about, but then again im only about 50 miles from ya. lol i cant picture a man door in a gate thats only 6' tall though. it really needs to just be a double swinging gate with one side smaller than the other.

Re: RV gate with a man gate inside of it. Anyone have pics?

Swing gate? Rolling gate? One section? Two section? Ornamental and open with pickets? Or closed sheeted with steel or wood? Time frame?

The valley is full of "RV" gates - but not many with man gates incorporated. With the 6' normal height, you would have to step over the bottom rail while ducking under the top rail. Pretty difficult and troublesome to take out the trash compared to a two leaf gate.

I did a two piece 12' gate (like dback suggested) 20-some years ago, designed to be concealed in a redwood fence.
It's posted here: http://weldingweb.com/showthread.php?t=63016
The man gate goes from the hinge knuckle at the very right edge of the pic to the deadbolt about 4' left. The hasp / lifting handle for the drop bolt is just left of that. The 8' section continues left to the hinges on the block wall pilaster behind the water. Note that the block is NOT strong enough to support the gate in the full cantilever closed position. It needs a tab on the drop bolt to hold the 8' leaf up and level. And I hold it up while swinging it open. In the sketch the 4x4 steel tube jamb with footing was because when I built it the whole back fence was wood. In a block fence I would have simply used the pilaster as the man door hinge jamb, it's plenty strong enough. (even without the 1200# 2x2x2 footing)
Here's a sketch (viewed from outside):

It's still there, in good condition last time I looked. I'll swing by and take pics of the frame details within the next week or so if anybody's interested. Sample, its near Scottsdale & McDowell roads - PM me if you want the address.

I'm picturing something like this (like a cat/dog door within a people door, but on a larger scale). Found on the interwebs...

Re: RV gate with a man gate inside of it. Anyone have pics?

Do you think a price of $590 for a gate similar to this is a good price?

6' tall
10' long with a 4' "man" gate built into the single larger gate.

Good for who, you or the customer? Seems kinda cheap to me. I assume that you have to install it with a main post either in the ground or mounted to a wall with another post at the other end for a stop and latch of some kind as well. Maybe you are all set up with a fixture that makes it fast for you to build and still make money, that's what its all about. If I was buying I would be happy with that price.

Fair price? I will buy it off you for $590, then flip it for double.
There are some hits and misses with the wood work.
