Yet another respirator question.

Just a quick question is anybody using a 3M 7500 with particulate filters under a Jackson Shadow helmet. I am in the market but dont have a chance to try one.
Thanks Mark

Don't buy respirators sight-unseen. Always try before you buy.

Re: Yet another respirator question.

The 7500 will fit under most hoods.

As joshfromsaltlake mentions, best to get a proper fit respirator. They are available in sizes.

Mine is a 7502, which is a medium fit mask.

Re: Yet another respirator question.

I use a 3m 7502 mask with P100 filters under a Jackson Shadow with a 4x5 gold filter. The hood will smack the mask if the swivels are loose and/or the angle adjusters let it sit low enough but otherwise it works very well. The mask fills the void between my face and hood enough to block most of the light coming in the sides which helps a lot with the 4x5 window.

I have a Huntsman with a 2x4 A/D filter for tacking and such but I think the Jackson offers better protection, its loads lighter and has way better headgear.

I bought the mask online without trying one but it fits fine. I tried the hood over the mask at a LWS before buying it.

Re: Yet another respirator question.

I got my gold filters from the same LWS I got my hood from. I have a shade 10 and a shade 11 in polycarbonate made by Weldmark. They were $13 each, the 10 was in stock and the 11 was there the next day.

My only gripe with the Jackson hood is that I can't fit a cover on both sides of the filter, there's only room for the one on the outside so the inside gets some sparks every once in a while when doing vertical or overhead.
