Re: Miller Multimatic 200?

Just saw your post about the work clamp.

The issue is that the work clamp for MIG is the torch connection for TIG and as such, it has the gas passage down the middle. What that means is the O-rings are a little tight. I had similar issue and pulled back on the rubber covering of the connector and it exposed a 6sided brass fitting. Gave it a little turn with a wrench and problem solved.... well, until I took it off. Worked it on and off a few times and now I can do it by hand.

I mostly keep the work clamp plugged in anyway. Not really a TIG machine.

Oh, as for the table. I already had the Strong Hands table. Strong hands one has more features, but the miller is heavier duty (thicker top). The strong hands was marginal for me clamping down aluminum in an attempt to keep it from moving (distorting from welding). Miller table much better. Took about 2 weeks to arrive.

Yea the Miller rep said it might be a little tight... but this was beyond a little tight... I tried until I drew blood on my knuckles.... absolutely a nogo.

Re: Miller Multimatic 200?

so I just found out that the multimatic is made in china and assembled in the US. THE reason I ordered the miller and not the much cheaper ta 211i is because I thought I was getting american made like my passport plus. I think I am going to cancel my order.

That's a surprising piece of info. Also quite depressing.

Not surprising, really. Did you expect every bit of circuitry to be US made?

Anyway, what's your source for this info?

Re: Miller Multimatic 200?

Quick update, got the multimatic back yesterday. Miller rushed it out, they did fix the problem, the connection is tight but I can connect it by hand. The techs were real quick about the turn around. I got a free Tshirt and a free gauge/regulator. And yes it is true this machine seems to be somewhat outsourced... Assembled in the USA, not made in the USA. Will be checking it out this weekend, putting it through some paces. Will definitely report back.

Re: Miller Multimatic 200?

I heard it in a video review on youtube, but there you go straight from Will. no, I don't expect every piece to be made in the US, we are in a global market like it or not, but I have bought several new millers because they were made in the US. I am a guy that usually buys used, but for a made in the US welder was willing to fork over for new prices.

Re: Miller Multimatic 200?

All of the millers i've ever seen had a "made in the U.S.A." sticker on the front of them.

Re: Miller Multimatic 200?

If I remeber right, if a product has more then 2% of it's pieces out sourced it cannot be labeled as Made in America, only Assembled.

I guess I honestly can't expect it., it just saddens me.

I was thinking perhaps a machine manufacturing company that does make a superior product would step things up and produce ALL of the parts here.

I just am not sure what we have left in this country. What would be so wrong about a 100% USA made product. We need jobs, so a push for making and buying 100% USA product would be great.

Like TURK, if it were 100% US made, I would shell out some extra bucks for it. We need to stop the bleeding here. If we don't start making top quality stuff here for a decent price, we are doomed. I haven't bought a US made car in over 20 years. Why? Got tired of going to the dealership with problems 5 times a year.

Re: Miller Multimatic 200?

I think for this type of machine and price, the multimatic is about as american as it gets... correct me if i'm wrong. Having said that, I certainly agree...come on Miller... let's keep it home.... all the way!

Re: Miller Multimatic 200?

I would be happy to pay my 1850 to buy this welder locally if it were US made. but when the made in china TA 211i is 600 bones cheaper I can't pay the extra for a us worker assembling the last couple of bolts. I will just keep my US made passport, buy an acetylene bottle, and learn to braze.

Re: Miller Multimatic 200?

Well I had a few minutes with the multimatic this afternoon... Only got a chance to burn some 1/8 6011. I had heard in a video review that 1/8 6011 was this machines only downside. However, I will attest that this machine had no problem burning 6011 in auto set or manual mode. Arc was smooth as silk and I was very pleased with the stick capabilities of this machine. Hope to give some opinions on the MIG TIG functions ASAP

This is our government at work (FTC), you will probably be seeing alot more of the "Assembled in the USA" in the future.

US companies are prohibited from making an unqualified "Made in USA" claim unless "all or substantially all" of their product is of US origin. High tech manufacturers often cannot procure all of the needed components of their product from US sources; typically, a small percentage of the manufacturing cost represents components sourced from overseas, yet there is no definition of "substantially all" from the FTC.

This is going to affect alot of companies.

Re: Miller Multimatic 200?

Lincoln already did it and sold a ton of those cheap MIG in superstore, they are not bad machine but they will never last as long they use to. Miller may try to take a bite in this part of the market I’m ok with that as long they offer GOOD support, a GOOD product and keep the "MADE IN USA" old line alive. I can't imagine reading “Assembled in USA" on a Dynasty, if this day ever happen I jump out of this boat!

I currently restoring my old 1650 quiet line Cub Cadet garden tractor ( I do all mechanic first and take it apart next summer for painting) I did it because I can't find anything similar for less than $7000! Today Cub Cadet are "assembled" by MTD from Chinese made parts like Aluminum tranny case and plastic body parts. The 2000 series are not bad lawn tractor but I bet you my balls they never keep in one piece working as hard my 36 years old CC did.

Sorry hit wrong button in tapatalk and it won't let me edit... once red nd blue are not made in USA I don't think u will be able to find a welder that is.
I worked for john deere for a couple years. 2004/5. And their new lawn tractors were the same $hit. Their old stuff like toe old 400 and 300 line were great. Same goes for a lot of their other stuff too
