Hi from Nashville TN

First post, so it was only proper to introduce myself. I am a 46 year old practicing welder, which means I hack at most of it. Glad to be here, and hope stick around for quite some time, learning and giving any advice that I am able to give. Thanks!

Re: Hi from Nashville TN

Thanks guys...nice to see that some fellow Nashvillians are lurking here

mnm4|1f3, I have been a hobby welder for about 20 years. I have, until recently, welded with stick or OA on cast iron. I restore old machinery, so welding cast is essential. A few weeks ago, I splurged and got a MM185 gmaw and then a week later dipped in the old wallet for a MM Spectrum 375 plasma. I am like a kid in the candy store now!

Welcome kepe, good to have you aboard. I'd be curious to see the machinery pics too.

Re: Hi from Nashville TN

I'm in Knoxville. I'm out of work right now, but have a promise of work within the next couple weeks. Anything much going on in Nashville? I'd love to hit a short shutdown or something.

Re: Hi from Nashville TN

I don't have and pics of the welding equipment yet, but I do have some of the restoration work I have done on a drill press....

The restored pic doesn't include the motor, which was torn apart when the pic was taken. The DP is a 1957 Buffalo Forge No. 18 with a jacobs Super Chuck 14N. Several of the heavier pieces were de-rusted using electrolysis and the smaller pieces were sand blasted. The column was placed in a lathe and spun with 60g sand paper then emery cloth and then polished up with a high speed polisher. Every bearing was replaced and all non painted pieces were polished. All hardware is Grade 8 stainless and it has 4 coats of primer and 2 coats of industrial machine paint.

I have 5 drill presses that are currently in need of restoration. Two are smaller table top models from the mid-50's and my two prize drill presses are from 1904 and 1909, respectively. The 1904 is a Canedy-Otto 22 line-shaft driven DP and the 1909 is a Champion Blower and Forge 20 hand crank/line-shaft driven DP. I will take a few snapshots of them when I get a chance

Re: Hi from Nashville TN

lewray, Thanks. Go for the restore as I am sure it will turn out great! Take plenty of pics

Littlefuzz, sure does, plus it is much stronger than anything I could get today for the money I have in it. I will end up selling it as soon as I get the Champion DP finished, but that project is on hold because I am currently working on a fabrication table and a welding table. The fabrication table is a 6.5'x4.5' hydraulic double-scissor lift table and the welding table is a 4'x4' pneumatic rotating scissor lift table.

chenry, think so? lol

longevity-inc.com, thanks.

Re: Hi from Nashville TN

Engloid, sorry...I must have missed your post. There is a ton of construction going on here, so there may be work here....I don't get away from home much, I am not totally sure of what is available. I am on permanent "shutdown", and loving every minute of it

Nice drill press, older stuff is easier on the eye. Single phase or 110?
