I find one of the biggest price-droppers with the Dynasty's is whether the unit is still under factory warranty or not. Is it still covered?

Re: what is a gently used dynasty 200 worth?

Depends on where you sell it, IMO. I shopped for a while, watched 'em on ebay and message boards.

They're nuts on ebay. I saw a 2005 Dynasty go for $2900 about 6 weeks ago, with leads, pedal, and regulator.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=320424397799

I'd say average ebay would be $2200-$2600, but be sure to take good pictures and dress up the ad.

On message boards, $2000-$2200.

i think it is almost 3 years old, how long is the miller warranty? it did sit in a box for the first 2 years and had never been hooked up ( i know that still counts against the warranty). i would never look at one of these because i know they are spendy but...

the machine belongs to a friend who doesn't really use it. i think i have logged almost every hour that is on that machine. he is unloading some of his other stuff to free up some cash and i thought i might make him an offer on the dynasty.

Well, since you're the buyer and not the seller, it's only worth $1675 plus leads/pedal. Show your buddy the red-d-arc page, not the $2950 ebay auction. Ha ha ha.

http://www.red-d-arc.com/category_pa...category_id=14

lol.

Warranty is 3 years.

Yeah, not a bad price. I wouldn't gamble on retired rental equipment myself.

Been there, done that.

I would say average used price would be in the $1800-2200 range. I am basing this on the recent slump in overall equipment sales. $3600.00 List (200DX Model),

http://www.millerwelds.com/products/...ty_200_series/

Around $2700-3200+ average for new retail depending on options, location, dealer, etc. $3600 list is for machine only, NO accessories. List price is generally 30% above the price the dealer pays (In the USA). This is so for parts, I believe to the best of my knowledge it is the same for machinery as well. Of course, prices can differ, but this is a rough guide to go by.

Factory refurb machines & demo machines sell from time to time. Just an example:

907101 DYNASTY 700 (AUTO-LINE 208-575) LF430192L

$12,382.00 LIST

$6,810.10 Dealer's Price. (Shipping & taxes are usually not included, other charges may apply as well.)

There were no 200's on the Extranet tonight, but this gives you an idea. They base the actual cost on the year manufactured. Any factory warranty is also based on a pre determined scale. Factory refurbs are a good deal, but a dealer has to make the purchase & work the details out with you. The general public cannot buy direct from Miller.

On something like what the OP has mentioned, $2200 or in the ballpark would be fair. Since it doesn't have any real warranty, as well as the newer ones have updated (Blue Fire) technology, I would think that would be a good place to start, all things considered.

If it was me & I was willing to shell out that kind of money, I would personally take the plunge & buy new with the full 3 year warranty.

That, or see what Weldersales could do for me...

He's one heck of a level guy. Check him out. He may be able to put a good machine in your hands for a good price.

If he's hard-up for cash, offer him $1800.

Re: what is a gently used dynasty 200 worth?

I just saw a 200 DX for sale today for $1600. I sent the seller an email asking how old it was. Any of you guys aware of any weakness or design flaws in this machine?

Just looked at Miller's on-line manual....arc timer and arc counter are stored and can be displayed...thanks for the tip.

Mine says...
207 - 186
-5 - ___
___ - 135
Also, the hour meter shows 67 hrs 31 min (or 4051 minutes)
The arc counter shows 7,072
So I guess the average is 1/2 minute per cycle.

It makes a high freq buzzing sound that varies when you change parameters/settings. Is this normal?

Re: what is a gently used dynasty 200 worth?

Now I need a tank of Argon. My LWS wants almost $200 for an 80 cu ft tank....seems a little pricy.

Also, this machine is WAY more complex than my Millermatic 211. I'll spend next week studying the manual probably asking a lot of stupid questions on this forum. The manual had typical parameters for 1/8" alum and 16ga stainless. I'll use these to get started and then vary the settings to see what happens.

BTW...the seller said I only need 100% Argon for TIG or MIG...carbon, alum or stainless. That didn't sound right to me. Have you guys ever heard of this "one gas fits all" theory. I've been using 75 Ar/25 CO2 for my MIG on carbon steel and it works great. Tried 100% Argon once on alum and the results were OK. I understand that the TIG will need 100% Argon but I think I need to keep my 75/25 for the MIG on CS.

Re: what is a gently used dynasty 200 worth?

100% argon for tig on all metals and mig on aluminum.

100% CO2 for mig on carbon steel in short circuit transfer

Argon/C02 mix for mig on carbon steel in short circuit transfer

Argon/oxygen mix for mig on carbon steel in spray transfer

Argon/CO2 mix with 15% or less CO2 for mig on carbon steel in spray transfer

Argon/oxygen mix for mig on stainless in spray transfer

Tri-mix for mig on stainless in short circuit transfer
