Lightbulb VW Bug as tow vehicle?

Tow vehicle, that's right. Might not tow much, but who knows! Just watch!

Re: VW Bug as tow vehicle?

I don't have broadband so I can't see the video-but the message title reminded me of a situation.
I once towed my fathers Oldsmobile station wagon with a '62 Bug about 10 miles including from the valley floor up a relatively steep road to my house- so I could repair a carburator hosed down with foam in a car fire. Both the tow and the carb rebuild was a success-father forever after thought I was superman. It was well worth the clutch I had to replace a month later.

That's pretty darn cool. The turning around and facing the trailer is a trip.

Re: VW Bug as tow vehicle?

Knotbored, the Bug is fitted with a roof mouted hitch ball. The fifth wheel style trailer has a standard bumber type coupler mounted under the overhang. The trailer is ultralight and sized perfectly for the Bug to turn 360 degrees under the trailer, while connected! They demonstrate the manueverability without the safety chains or electric cable attached, but still, it is quite the novelty.

I am glad your clutch was not sacrificed in vain!!

Re: VW Bug as tow vehicle?

That is a funny video. I've seen that a long time ago on a towing website. If you look at the placement of the trailer axles, the fifth wheel they use has very little hitch weight compared to most fifth wheels.

Re: VW Bug as tow vehicle?

The VW bug can do ANYTHING. It was by far the best car ever made. Pound for pound, dollar for dollar, it was, and still is, the King!
