250ex?any use one?
im looking into buying a 250ex i would like to hear from some ppl that have them,i am woried about how accuret the specs that everlast cliams are.will the welder really do 250amp with the advretised 65% duty cycle? also will the balance really go form 10-90%? i know that some of the china stuff will not live up to the specs that they cliam. also how hard would it be to make a miller/lincoln foot peadle work with this welder?

Re: 250ex?any use one?
The machine is excellent it definitely does all it claims and beyond, the AC Hz go from 20-250 and the balance does go from 10%-90%. It is really a great machine. I am a very proficient welder and this will machine will dial in to weld the thinnest of aluminum and the pulse selections are very precise. Believe me I would have loved to have gotten A Dynasty 350 but for $6000 I had to look elsewhere. Yes the foot pedal that comes with the machine is big and bulky and that was one of my biggest complaints. So i took the 47k potentiometer out of the pedal and put it in an old thermal dynamics pedal and rewire the pinout on the machine connection... Works beautifully. I am now looking to hookup one of my old weld craft torches to the machine but its going to require a few pigtail adapters, they dont use the standard water cooler connections or gas connections, but overall you cant beat the machine. Hopefully this was helpful

Re: 250ex?any use one?
well there are no direct adapters. The fittings supplied with the torch for the water lines are 1/2" RH threads and the gas line connection is a quick connect similar to an air line fitting.
every torch setup ive ever used uses 3/8" LH threads for the water lines and 3/8" RH for the gas line, so the only way to do it we be to make short pigtails with the correct fittings on each side of the hose. also the back of the machine where the gas comes in instead of a female threaded connection there is a hose barb so im thinking of making a short pigtail there too. and the flowmeter has a male fitting and reads in LPM not CFM but its all minor stuff when compared to the machines capabilities. All in all you would probably have to spend about $30 worth of fittings to get a standard torch to fit on the machine. |

Re: 250ex?any use one?
I would like to clarify something...we only advertise a 60% duty cycle..not 65%... That's how rumors get started. lol. Next it would be a 70% duty.
I'm glad madkaw gave his honest opinion. We do have different connections. But with the hose barbs on the water cooler, its an easy adapation. BTW, Runfromdacops, if you will pm me, I can give you a price. But, unless the water coolers have changed, it was a metric 14mm fitting that was on the cooler. It might have change without our notice. The majority of the water cooler is made in Italy and assembled in China.

Re: 250ex?any use one?
I bought an everlast 250 EX 7-6-09 . I am a part time welder machinist and a full time mobile mechanic. It has been a good welder, has a lot of reserve power and all the features I will ever need. I weld aluminum trans and engine cases in the Austin area for a few auto shops. I have taken it to a few boat shops on Lake Travis to do repair welding on aluminum pontoon boats. It has served me well and is still working well. I use an air cooled torch while doing mobile work and water cooled in the garage. I usually set the max amps at 175, ac freq at 100, ballance at 30% positive-70% neg. Argon flow at 20 to 25 outside and 11 inside garage. I leave the foot control at home and use the 2t switch with a button on the road.
Just a quick review after 1 year of part time use. Patf |

Re: 250ex?any use one?
Hey runs, Look at Weldwingtipsandtricks.com for a current look at the welder you are looking at. Michael is a stand up kinda guy who will tell all when it comes to the machine. He is doing a demo for them right now and the first impression is already posted on you tube. Just so you can have a fair look!!!.

Re: 250ex?any use one?
Rubs, Good deal. Not taking anything from the Everlast but I think you probably will be better served in the long run. Learning on a proven machine is always better than introducing an unknown quantity. Once you are versatile and well trained you could consider one of it has the specs and features you need. The 250 EX is a full featured machine that is way beyond a lot of folks skill set and hinders there learning by adding too much at the beginning of the curve. Practice is what makes a good weld, not the machine...

Re: 250ex?any use one?
Well,
We do offer our 200dx series that has a lot less features...for a lot less money too.

Re: 250ex?any use one?
5/8" what? Steel? SS? Al?
We have customers doing 5/8: but that depends upon skill and a number of variables. I'd recommend the 315DX if you need that amount with some reserve. But its 3 phase only.
