Diversion 165 Question
What is the minimum size circuit a 165 can be run on? I was figuring a 40 amp circuit but have been told a 30 would do. Per the spec sheet, I believe 25.5 amps draw at around 150 output was the max. I'm pulling those numbers from memory.

Re: Diversion 165 Question
Thanks for the reply,
I kinda lost track of the thread. I decided I'm not going to buy the diversion. Most likely will pick up a maxstar 150 STH. |

Re: Diversion 165 Question
Just be aware the Maxstar 150 is a DC only machine. If you are looking to do alum tig you will need a machine thats AC/DC, like the Diversion, Syncrowave or Dynasty.

Re: Diversion 165 Question
What I would like to know (just because I am curious...) is what is the AC TIG frequency of Miller's new diversion machines? I could not find this important specification in their online literature or manual.

The market for the welder are those that don't know (or care) what the freq is. It's a bare bones entry level machine and that spec is not going to be important for the target market. If you need those adjustments you'd be better off with a Syncro or Dynasty. IIRC when I saw the demo at AWS when the current knob is turned other parameters, for example the balance, are automatically adjusted as well. I can't remember if the freq was constant or changed. I think the reissue Square Wave 175 might be a better value. Includes a stinger and foot pedal for about $150 more than the 165 after rebate. |

Re: Diversion 165 Question
I'm with you on that. Actually the guys I've been dealing with at LWS did make a point to mention that, which although I knew, I still appreciated. I'd suppose more than a few buyers have come back to them after the purchase lamenting the fact that it won't(easily) weld alum.

Re: Diversion 165 Question
To answer my own question, I did manage to find the answer about the Diversion's AC welding specifications in this post by a Miller employee on their forum:
http://www.millerwelds.com/resources...901#post160901 "The Diversion 165 does have pre-set balance (72% EN) and frequency (120 Hz)" It would appear from this statement that these AC settings are fixed, (do not vary with adjustments to the current knob.) |
