Lights help

So first off i know this isnt welding related, but it is electrical related so if it has to move then someone move it to where it needs to be....

I recently aquired a 79 Honda XR250 with very low miles for next to nothing - just needs a little tlc... anyway ive become quite the on/off road rider and the XR model was originally designed for offroad only, so it only has a head light and tail light - also doesnt have a battery so i have to take a lead off the CDI

in order for me to make it street legal in texas all i need to do is add signal lights - Ive already figured out that i can hook up a 2-wire setup on the bike since i only ride during the day. my dilema is how to create the "flash" associated with the turn signals. Im going to go to the local "bike boneyard" and gut a signal switch, then take a hot lead that goes to the headlight off of the CDI to get my 12V+, then route the wires accordingly to each signal and then ground back to the bike.

my dilema is i dont know where to obtain the "flasher box" (dont know what the technical term is) that will go between the selector switch and the 12v+. is this something in particular i need to look for or can i go to the local auto parts store and get one for a few $??

im familiar with electrical systems, i just dont know anything about turn signals....

Re: Lights help

A few years ago my brother put a light kit on his xr500. I don't recall where he got it or the price.

I found this kit... it even has the horn

As for the flasher... you can either get flashing light bulbs or use a standard flasher relay from the auto parts store. This page may help you design your system.
