Re: Oldest welder you guys are still using???
You must be talking about his KO Lee machine? Pretty sharp unit.
I wish I could slip up around Nashville ...I'd add that Sight Feed to my toys... couldn't happen anytime soon. I'm watching over my 81 YO Mom that just got out of ICU last week after a 2 week coma and she has some more health issues to deal with that will last at least a few more months. If I get a way to slip away when are you going to move to Tenn. ? You never know

Re: Oldest welder you guys are still using???
We have 10 or so of those welders at my high school along with a couple newer millers, those old welders work amazingly, along with the old rectangular idealarc's set up for tig.

Re: Oldest welder you guys are still using???
I recently found a forney Ac welder in my grandfathers shop I blew it out with compressed air and cleaned up the rust a bit and bought new leads it runs good but I recommend buying lincoln electric electrodes for when i changed from hobart the welding characteristics were 70 times better on the sticking and arc quitting did plenty of good beads will be posting pics. Oh and they were 7018 ac rods lincolns rods are superior.

Re: Oldest welder you guys are still using???
I have a 1954 Short hood SA200 pipeliner by ser.and model. Bought this oldie in 1975 for $650.00 with
leads. Used for 6yrs oil pressure went south. Pulled engine replaced f162 with f163 out of famous 1976 aluminum winding machine{piece of junk} stay away. Up till 6weeks ran great in middle of repair on backhoe buket fan belt broke boiled her and warpped head so get to fix her up. Sound dumb to some but if you run something this long she gets a name "Muady" is it. plus when battery dies and you hand crank it other names come out too. |

Re: Oldest welder you guys are still using???
Smaller pictures......
According to a Hobart historian this one was sold to Moes Johnson from Aida Michigan in 1945 and originally had a pulley drive for any engine. The previous owner, an engine nut from Moss Bluff LA. attached the Wisconsin V4h that has a hand crank magneto ignition oil bath air filter automotive starter and makes app. 40 hp. at 1500 rpm. Do you think I am pleased?

Re: Oldest welder you guys are still using???
Those are TUNGAR rectifier bulbs in case you guys are still curious. Tungsten cathode, argon filled. They emit a cool glow when in use too. :-)

Re: Oldest welder you guys are still using???
I have a Hobart G213 that my father brought home in 1971 or '72. I've used it recreationally since the 80's and the only bad thing about it is the small generator and the lack of parts available; if I'll ever need them. So far I have installed an electric fuel pump and an alternator.

Re: Oldest welder you guys are still using???
2/3 of my machines are about seven years old (see sig). Also have an older Craftsman buzz box a buddy gave to me. He inherited that thing when his Grandfather passed. I think I'll hang onto it, though I've not got a use, since my squarewave still works. These are the only welding machines I've owned. Have had the mig since 05, the tig since end of 2011, and the Craftsman for a few months now. Have yet to fire it up.

I think I have been inspired to dress the old girl up with a good cleaning and some fresh paint.

Re: Oldest welder you guys are still using???
My uncle bought one like that in 1946 to build water tanks for his well drilling business. My cousin used it up until the time he died a few years ago. It is a great welder. IIRC, it was made by/for National Cylinder Gas.

Re: Oldest welder you guys are still using???
Still have one of these and it still works great for what it does. I think it is the oldest thing I have for welding or soldering something.
