Lincoln idealarc dc250?

Hi everyone. I have a question,my cousin gave me a welder probably 10 years ago and its been setting in my basement ever since. It is a lincoln idealarc dc250 multiprocess welder and it has the LM7 wire feeder. The manual for the welder says 1987 so im assuming thats when it was built. Anyway,im trying to find out if you can tig and mig weld with this welder(cousin isnt around anymore) ive asked a couple people and one says you cant mig because its a dc welder, one says you can mig and the other said if you could mig with it then their would be a foot pedal with it to control voltage. So can someone tell me if its a tig and mig welder? Or should i just call Lincoln? ill try to post a pic of it. Thanks in advance for any help

Re: Lincoln idealarc dc250?

The meat and potatoes is a Stick/Tig welder. The LN7 on top is a MIG unit, without its gun. I believe the Stick machine has to have a CV setting for the Wire Feeder to operate properly. The guns and just about any other component can be purchased at a LWS...

Re: Lincoln idealarc dc250?

Need to see a closer up pic of the front panel.
Does it have a constant current/constant voltage selection switch? If so, it will Mig, stick and tig.
If it is a constant current machine only, It will stick and dc tig only.
Regardless, those machines were very good welders.

Re: Lincoln idealarc dc250?

The DC 250 is a is a stick/scratch tig and mig welder.
On the center mode switch the red label is mig and the white is Stick/tig.
The left switch has to be set in the same color. 3 mig settings and 1 stick.
there are 4 weld terminals, two for mig and 2 for stick.
The door between has the connection terminal strips for the feeder and remote control.
Find the code number on the welder and go to Lincoln's web site and down load the owner's manual for both the welder and the feeder. The connection diagrams for the feeder.
The LN7 feeder's came with and with out gas valves. You can get a gas valve and mount it to the case and plug it in. a hose goes from the valve directly to the miggun.
If you have to buy a Lincoln miggun, make sure you get the right kit with it so it will work with the LN7. It will have a hose barb fitting for the gas hose. may have to pull a plastic bolt and screw the hose barb in. The DC 250 is a good old mig welder that can also stick weld.
double checked you picture. LN7 should have the gas valve inside. the gas supply fitting for the miggun is right on the front. to the left of the gun mount.
