What kind of oil should I run in my Sa 200?
I have a continental f 163. I was told to use Rotella T because of the zinc content just not sure what weight. Any suggestions?

Re: What kind of oil should I run in my Sa 200?
Well the engine manufacturer recomends a high detergent, SE, service class E of the appropriate grade for the seasonal temperatures with single and multi-grades acceptable.
Severe Winter (below 0F) - SAE 5W-20 Normal Winter (0-32F) - SAE 10 Spring/Fall (32-75F) - SAE 20 Summer (above 75F) - SAE 30 A 10W-30 can be run year round for temperatures ranging from 0 to above 75F. Whichever oil you choose, it's VERY important to follow the recommended oil/filter change intervals to prevent excessive build-up of corrosive contaminents and deposits that cause premature wear. Too often owners focus too much on which oil and neglect proper change intervals thus negating any advantage of any quality lubricant. Recommended change interval is from 150 hours for very clean environment to 50 hours or less for extremely dirty.

Some guys on here run 15w40 others 10w30 others 5w40 other sae 30. The SE rating dates back to 1970's and is obsolete.

duane, any word on synthetic in something this old? I haven't looked into the availability of a synthetic-compatible filter that interchanges with a B50.

Good point. '79 and before to be exact. Replaced by SJ, SL, SM and the latest - SN.

Re: What kind of oil should I run in my Sa 200?
Synthetics aren't a problem. It's not like putting new wine in old skins. However, a fresh rebuild needs to be broken in with a standard oil to assure proper ring seating before switching to synthetic.
