Ya around here you have to make sure and paint the wood, otherwise it's termite problems

It's just an overload/helper spring.

Right, and "hear yea" to all the above suggestions.
But it's still too much work though, and too complicated.
I once saw a simpler more ingenious version, utilizing a basketball "caged " between axle and frame.
I'm serious too.

Good Luck

Awesome!
I've been trying to figure out how to mount "temporary" helper springs under my truck!

Re: friend asked me to fix his truck you got to see this

Forget the springs, just cram a block of wood between the frame and the axle on each side of the vehicle. Who needs helper srings? Don't laugh, I have seen a friend do this.

Lightbulb Re: friend asked me to fix his truck you got to see this

You can get those springs a little stiffer by putting a plastic shopping bag in the middle of the spring and filling it with expanding foam, works great!
And dont fergit ta strap a piece a' allround under the axle, coupla 3/4" drywall screw otta hold'er in there, keeps it from falling out in turn 3

He should have yused a min of grade 5 bolts those carriage boltsare not specd for redneck over load applications. Im always amazed when the Dot is checking out my rig and im thinking of all the sketchy stuff I see running down the highway and I just want to say you need to be checking the Sanford and Son truck not mine. Hahaha

Wood is actually pretty strong in compression. It make actually be stronger than many of these Chinese import spring spacers.

Re: friend asked me to fix his truck you got to see this

My grandfather had a leaf spring break at the rear eye once. He jacked up the car(mid 50s era) and proped the body up off the wheel with two 2x4's. He drove it that way for a couple of years before he sold it.
