helmet headgear for big heads?

I have a massive head. Size 8 fitted hats dont even fit me. I have tried all the hoods I can find and cant find a single company making headgear for people like me. I am currently using a Jackson Helmet because their headgear is the only one that allows the helmet to sit down some on my head. and i cant even tighten the ratchet down on it any. It basically just squeezes my head and gives me headaches from all do usage with the thing adjusted out as far as it will go. Ive tried all the millers, and they are too small. Tried a speedglass and it was the same thing. Does anyone else have a reccomendation or have a big head and found a solution?

I have a large head too and use a fibermetal hood with the rubber band in the back. there is no ratchet. I also have used an old huntsman that would fit my melon. I don't know about the new huntsman that is now owned by jackson. I find the jackson to be the largest with a rachet I use them on the clear face shields for my grinding work. I take the front head sweat band off so I have a little extra room.

Here is the fibremetal head gear link
Amazon Amazon

I have a modified head gear where I cut the ratchet off and used surgical tubing.

The jackson 370 is the biggest I have found, I wear an 8 1/8 stetson - and have to stretch it a tad.

Re: helmet headgear for big heads?

I wish there was a shield that was made a tad larger that would be able to raise all the way up and stay up without the slow creep back down. My small headed welding friends don't have this problem they raise their hood and it stays back cause it engages the small knock or bump or sits back far enough that it's weight holds it back.

Oh well, it is a small sacrifice to have a head this large to house all the brains and good looks.

huntsman headgear works wonders (even though they were bought out by Jackson, the headgear didn't change)...I don't have a big head, but the zanlock...thing...locks it in the up position until you want it to come down. Squeaks a bit though!

Re: helmet headgear for big heads?

miller just came out with a new headgear. I am 7 5/8 if my hair is short, and 7 3/4 if it is long, and could barely fit in the old miller headgear, but have high hopes for this new one I just ordered.

7 7/8 here and I've used the Huntsman for 30 years. I really wouldn't know if the other brands would work because this is all I've used but I do know they work great.

I'm with ya. I couldnt find a skidoo or motorcycle helmet to fit at all so I don't wear one. Helmet, fibremetal fixed shade.

Re: helmet headgear for big heads?

Do you play chess professionally? Do you understand particle physics?

I've got a pretty generous cranial diameter, and Jackson works fine for me, although I'm in the last three clicks of adjustability. I have trouble finding hats that fit. I think you're going to have to custom-build something. One time I was on a job for three weeks that required hard hats. The buckets they gave didn't fit me, so I ended up breaking the headband on one and then taping it with gaffer tape. Worked pretty well.
