Went and picked up an LQ4 up this weekend..

was running and driving when pulled, its a high mileage rebuilder, come out of a GMC Sierra 2500. 180k miles LQ4(cast iron block aluminum heads) 6.0 liter, good oil pressure, I got a decent deal on it, he replaced it with an LQ9 in his truck..

I dont know yet...

thinking rering, ls1 heads, about a .540-.550 lift cam, valve springs, a tune and dropping it in my 98 ta.

the thought has crossed my mind of selling it for profit and just build the ls1.

Did you make a compression test before pulling the head? Always good to know if any cylinders need extra attention when looking for problems after the head has been pulled.

Re: Went and picked up an LQ4 up this weekend..

no, i guess i should have just to know..

I'm going to go ahead and just rering it and put new bearings in it before I put it in.. its fairly cheap to rering it, so I might as well..

I'm planning on swapping on my stock ls1 heads, should give me a little better than a point of compression using .041 head gaskets, around 10.7:1 I'm guessing. I'll use the intake, lifters and pushrods from my ls1 because they are fairly low miles (88k miles), I'm going to look for an ls6 camshaft because they are cheap, or use a lunati voodoo cam with about .540 lift, and 112 to 114 lsa..
thought about just a hotcam or asa cam also, so i wouldnt have to mess with the converter..

It should make a strong cheap engine, with a lot of capability..

I now have tore down to the short block,

the block and crank and rods are in pretty good shape, still see faint crosshatching in the cylinders, no noticeable ring land, crank looks good, It would need a rering before I would use it..

It also has the 317 heads which are what a lot of folks want for boost because they have 71cc combustion chambers, stock lq4 compression is 9.5:1.. The valves felt ok, needs new seals, there are 3 manifold bolts broke off in the heads.

bare 6.0 blocks are going for around $450, I'm willing to sell the whole engine, intake to oilpan, disassembled to the shortblock , truck intake, fuels rails, injectors and drive by wire throttle body.

It would probably cost a small fortune to ship it, block alone weighs like 115lbs, think they weigh like 450lbs without the front accessories.

I'm open to offers, pm me..
