Design/Prints?
Hey Guys,
I have been doing alot of Custom Ornamental Gates and Railings Lately, and I have been Free-Hand Drawing alot of designs and Prints. Does anyone know where I can find, Ornamental Ironwork Templates? Like the ones Architect's use for Plans? Ones that have Scroll Templates and Spirals? Any Help or advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks Don.

Re: Design/Prints?
Hey Don,
Do you have any experience using CAD programs? Solidworks has a free 2D CAD program called Draftsight (basically AutoCAD) that you can download. Or you can use Google Sketchup for 3d work. King Architectural has DWG files of a lot of their ornamental iron on their website that you can download and use in your designs. Hope that helps... http://www.3ds.com/products/draftsight/overview/ http://www.kingmetals.com/Catalog/It...ogDetailId=109

Re: Design/Prints?
if you use sketchup and choose download 3d models icon from menu bar, then search for wrought iron , you will find lots of premade stuff you can modify...

May not be what architects use, but simple and fast for designing rails and presenting to customers. You can import any most ornamental accessories to your sketches. Last edited by tapwelder; 07-18-2012 at 02:50 AM. |

Re: Design/Prints?
Thanks Guys,
I have fooled around with the Google Sketchup, nothing serious... I like the concept of doing it on a drafting table... But I am considering modernizing to a CAD system... But I will check into the links you guys provided, Thanks alot, I really appreciate it. Thanks Don.

Re: Design/Prints?
Triple S Steel has a lot of books in their catalog and also a lot of different parts that can be used as patterns for your own work, although I suspect they are cheaper than doing it yourself.. www.sss-steel.com is their website.
