Re: My neighbor is mowing his grass...

LOL, weldermike I wasn't even going to do a garden this year, but my 3 year old made me. Not bad I must say, 25 days in and the squash and cukes are over a foot high and the tomatoes and beans are closing in. Gonna do pumpkins and winter squash soon.

Re: My neighbor is mowing his grass...

seeing that I work in a mower shop and really enjoy it, kinda turned a hobby into a job, I see a good bit, kinda like you guys posting the really good welds. Im shocked at the stuff I sometime see espically with saws. I work on the soff cut saws to the home owner stuff, and cant figure out what people are thinking some times.

Im a firm beliver in using what PPe you need to get the job done, like the guys and gals around here on their bikes with filp flops! Talke about a stubbed toe!

This is my favorite PPE, use the jug often !

Re: My neighbor is mowing his grass...

Today we had a warm day. first 80 degree weather in a long time. I was coming home from town and a guy on a big heavy Harley copy, came out of a side street, turned it on and slid kind of sitting up halfway across the street before he got it in control. Flip flops , shorts, tee shirt, a couple chains and a cop looking helmet. Ive done the same stunt in full leathers. But this was looking to leave a skin trail behind. Mac

I hope he'll get the real shoes. Oftentimes, we deliberately neglect the basic and simplest.

Talking Re: My neighbor is mowing his grass...

I have seen a few accidents where no matter what you had on wasn't going to save you a hundred percent, but the correct PPE sure made a difference!
BTW
as far as the neighbors grass, almost got caught once!

Re: My neighbor is mowing his grass...

I regularly mow in t-shirt and shorts, lightweight shoes, and earmuffs.

'Course, I'm mowing from the seat of my tractor

Re: My neighbor is mowing his grass...

I was out mowing yesterday when I saw a different neighbor (new to the neighborhood) teaching his son how to mow... Kid was barely tall enough to push the stupid thing. Handlebar was about as high as his shoulders. He was having trouble holding down the kill-switch lever thing, and couldn't pull the rope hard enough to restart it when it shut off, so good ol' dad wraps some duct tape around it to override the safety shutoff. I just minded my own business till I noticed the kid was wearing ****ing flip-flops, and could barely keep them on his feet as he shoved the mower through the foot tall grass.

I walked across the street in my jeans and work boots to introduce myself to the dad. I kindly let him know the previous owner of the house used to park cars on the lawn to work on them, and with the grass that tall, ya never know what leftover bits of steel might be waiting to get flung out from under the mower. I could see the little wheels in his head turning real slow, as he glanced down at my boots, then over to his kid who was bent down putting his flip-flop back on with the mower still whirring away unattended.

He got the point and took over the mowing. At least if someone's going to lose a foot from mowing without shoes, it's a 35 year old man, and not a 10 year old kid.

Re: My neighbor is mowing his grass...

A little off track, but i knew this bloke once everyone called Sharpie.

Trying to start his mower one arvo and she was a no go. Poured petrol down the carby and half over the mower and gave her a few pulls and still no go.

Decided to take the spark plug out to have a look if it was getting fuel.

Could not see in the bore thought the spark plug hole so he got his cig lighter and put his eye and lighter to the hole and blew up and caught on fire.

Man, ive got tears in my eyes from laughter while typing this.

I could start a thread on all the stuff ive seen this dude do.

Sorry hi jack over.

Re: My neighbor is mowing his grass...

I bet some of you also get fully strapped in football gear, just to check the mail in the morning too?

No seriously, I'm asking...With the way some of you talk...I'm thinking it may be a possibility.

I don't know how you can compare checking the mail without football pads to letting a 10 year old kid operate a push mower with the safety cutout bypassed, wearing flip-flops.

I took a green pine cone to the shin while mowing in shorts once, and I've worn jeans ever since then. A lady I in my old neighborhood ran over a coat hanger with a mower and skewered her calf muscle... straight through.

The way you talk, you're probably the guy who welds in flip flops, short sleeves, and a set of cutting goggles.
