drill table

am looking at making new table for my drill press as ones that come with drill presses over here are stupidly small.
struugle when drilling heads etc and end up clamping plywood to extend table.
anyone made one and can post pics?
or just need ideas.
have got some 4mm steel chequer plate think its also called diamond plate in states not sure.
was wondering if cutting pce to right size and getting slots milled into it.
then welding some angle under it and some heavy box rd edges would be strong enough?
or open to better ideas.

cheers

Re: drill table

Personally, I would not use 4mm diamond plate. I'd look for something flat and a bit thicker. But,if that's all you've got, it should work. I assume you mean to put the diamond side down against the existing table. I would not bother with cutting the slots, I don't think it will be stiff enough to effectively clamp anything down. Just use some flat head countersunk allen bolts to bolt it down to the existing table. Welding some angle around the perimeter wouldn't hurt.
