RT-60 Retrofit / Max 42 Installation

Been awhile since I last posted. School has been very demanding.

So, here's the question, recently my PAC 121 torch body finally failed and I purchased a new RT 60 retrofit torch w/25 foot lead from Hypermax. All is good so far and I'm expecting the torch to arrive on Monday. In the photo online for the torch it looks like it includes a new receptacle for the front panel of the Max 42. Is the installation of this new torch any more than just plugging it into the front panel? Or, am I going to have to change the front panel receptacle.

The PAC 121 appears to use 7 conductors while the RT 60 only uses 6. Does the extra conductor (looks like the red lead to to nozzle connection for pilot arc) just sit unused in the original panel receptacle?

Yes, a little confused and I expect to have to call Hypertherm tech support Monday afternoon before I fire this up for the first time.

Thanks,

Eric.

Re: RT-60 Retrofit / Max 42 Installation

I have an RT-60 on my Max42,and it did not come with a new receptacle, it plugs right in to the existing receptacle.

Note that the consumables are completely different; the PAC 121 consumables can't be used with the RT-60.

Re: RT-60 Retrofit / Max 42 Installation

Thanks John,

I was hoping for that answer. Must just be a weird photo on the Hypermax site.

Yeah, can't use the PAC 121 parts, I know. I just bought about $70.00 worth of electrodes and nozzles for the old torch right before it crapped out. I'm looking forward to some extended consumable life as is reported with the RT 60. Did you find that to be true? I use very dry air on my system so I know it was not that.

Eric

P.S. Do you have a favorite online dist. for torch consumables? My LWS isn't bad but they're not really local.

Re: RT-60 Retrofit / Max 42 Installation

The new torch simply plugs into the existing receptacle on your Max42.

Re: RT-60 Retrofit / Max 42 Installation

Update:

Yep, it arrived. Plugged it in and it works.

Truly a HUGE improvement over my old PAC121. Faster, cleaner and easier. Well worth the $330.00 I spent for the new torch. After about a dozen cuts through 1/4" there's hardly any pitting on the electrode. My old torch would have a crater by now.

Thanks for the replies.
