New to welding industry
Hi my name is Nate and im 19 year old and im a senior in highschool on the eastcoast and i am in a vocational school for marine trades and although i found out along the way im not into fixing boat engines and running all this engine troubleshooting junk. But here and there we did some GMAW-spray. nuthing big. i would put it in terms of backyard welding. because we welding stools and bikes to get some welding experience. And i found out i really like welding. and i my vocational teacher got me to go on an internship to a professional welding school to teach me more about welding. and im there for 6 weeks for 3 hours a day for 4 days a week. im currently on my 3rd week. the full classes are 7 hours a day 5 days a week and its only $5400 and you get a beginners certification and i can get into Electric Boat if im good enough.
Well like i said i did welding here and there in school for my vocational class. it wasnt anything major it was sorta of a here you go, go weld the metal stool it broke kind of thing just to get familiar with what welding is. And so i get to the welding school for my internship and i found out how more in depth welding is and theres more to welding than just laying down a pretty bead and welding random metal things and calling yourself a welder. i am really learn alot in this class. So lets get to the good part of the story im only on this internship to increase my welding experience and see if i like the class and want to come back and take the full class and get certified. . I know sooner found out the 2nd week of my internship that i was a really talented beginner welder. the welding instructor was really amazed with my work. He has students and low level employers there trying to further there certifications. and i come and and wash them out of the water. He told me im one of the best welders he has. he said i have an amazingly steady hand that not alot of welders have and my beads are really good. he put me on a test plate the second day that week, and i passed the root and the face. and then he switched me to GMAW-spray and i passed the root and the face test for that. all this teacher does it brag about how good i am. He told me i would have been able to get certified already to weld for FCAW and GMAW-spray if i was here for the full classes. the instructor said Electric Boat could really use the skills i have especially cause im small. im really enthused by this art of welding and i am going to go back and take he full class and get certified. im not trying to brag about myself im just excited about getting into the industry of welding. i didnt think i was that good until the instructor told me. ive been really succesful since i got there. any tips that im going to need as a beginners welder. my instructor recommended me a pocket welder guide that tells you everything about processes for different types of metals and specifications and etc..,.. is there anything like that anyone would recommend like a certain tool, book, toolbox/tool carrier or anything? i have a video right here of me: actually nvm i have some right now and a video: http://www.facebook.com/v/407649572599333 Last edited by Welderman2495; 05-15-2012 at 05:53 PM. |
