Newb

Hey all!

My plans are to learn some welding for ornamental ironwork. I know nothing at the moment... other than my desire to learn. Advice is appreciated!

Re: Newb

Welcome

If you want to learn how to weld Ornamental jobs you should learn first how to grind in tricky and tight space and then weld haha !

Do you want to learn how to make and do the fabrication on ornamental or only weld onrnamental stuff ? Its only MY advice but weld and grind ornamental stuff is really boring and still in MY opinion won't let you practice nice welds, 80% of your welds will be grind flush!

If you have been in welding school and want to stay arround mild steel and basic welds go in a structure shop!

Welcome!
There's plenty to learn and some willing to teach.

Since you've expressed an interest in ornamental work I'd point you to the following posts more for the names of people than the projects, but they're on topic.

Post up some photos and ideas. You'll likely get some comments and suggestions.

Re: Newb

Welcome to the forum. If you'll do a "search" for ornamental iron you'll get many takes on the subject.
If you'll go here & request the catalogs you'll get inspiration to make the stuff!

I want to make my own stuff. )

I haven't been in school yet. I plan to start some classes this fall. There is an ornamental welding course at the local tech college.

Yeah... not everyone is willing to teach. I learned that a long time ago. And honestly... some shouldn't! haha

Thank you for the links. I read them and enjoyed the pics.

It'll prob be a minute before I'm ready to share photos. I have too much to learn first!
