Miller Bluestar 2e update....

Update...well, I haven't been on here since....hell, I cant remember.....2007 maybe.

Friend of mine GAVE me the above welder....had to get a carb rebuild kit for it, and a petcock for the tank.

Motor ran fine with all his original carb parts after I re assembled it believe it or not....just had to keep a finger over the welch plug..LOL.

27 dollar carb kit gave me a welch plug, bowl gasket, high speed nut gasket, some foam jobbies for the choke and throttle shafts, and a new float needle........little pricey if you ask me.

Threw carb kit on, and runs like a dream now....also, I ditched the fuel pump....right or wrong, it runs fine without it....gravity setup obviously, with the stock gas tank.

Machine wouldnt idle down after the 15 seconds however....solenoid worked fine, as it would idle down if you flipped the switch back and forth.....so, I decided to look into the auto idle board.

Marked all my wires, and pulled it out.....I remember a post about a resistor maybe being bad, but I actually found a bad trace that fried on the board....soldered in a little jumper wire from terminal to terminal, put her back together, and viola...worked like a charm!!!!

Nice little machine, WAAAAY too big for anything I'll ever do, but heck, I can probably run mine, and the neighbors fridge when the power goes out if anything.

I plan on finding a nice automotive style muffler for this thing, she's LOUD with the little canister style lawnmower muffler that's currently on it.

Good to see the site still dominating!!!

Re: Miller Bluestar 2e update....

That was short lived.....word to the wise, make damn sure the battery gets connected the right way.....my buddy crossed the terminals and poof!

Luckily a friend has 5 scrap machines that I can pick parts off of, hopefully one of those is good.....if not, this guy is buying me a weld mart converted board....smh.

Dang! Looks like 2009 actually.

That sucks. Remind your buddy that "reversed polarity" applies to the welder output not the battery circuit.

Re: Miller Bluestar 2e update....

Hahaha....I need to remind him, with a hammer to the head.

Picked up a spare machine from my other buddy....it's the aead or whatever it was called version AC/DC.....has the onan motor, can't tell if the motor is locked, or the welder portion is frozen though....I'd like to get the motor going, for a spare, or another project.

I plan on getting all I can take out of the welder for spare parts, and scrapping the rest....dude said they parked them, because they won't weld any longer....not worth it to sink any money into it I'd imagine..

Re: Miller Bluestar 2e update....

Got my idle board out of the new machine....works good.

Battery tray, another gas tank, that's all so far.

Motor is junk unfortunately, probably gonna scrap the rest, unless anybody might need a part or two off it...

Well, don't scrap the Onan if it has any usable parts. Go to ---

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Onan_Engine_Club/

You won't have any trouble moving the parts to someone who needs them. OEM parts are spendy and if it's a CCK series those are getting harder to find.

Bluestar shouldn't have an Onan. Kohler one-lunger I believe.

"2"E is Tecumseh and "1"E is Kohler.

Special thanks to Larry Burross (member weldersales) for that information some time ago.

Huh... I never made that connection before. I've seen both types, and never noticed!

Tecumseh engines are one notch above steam engines on my "engines to power small equipment with" list.

Well said! Kohler or Onan engines are dam good workhorse but my soft spot goes to Perkins and Kubota Diesel :-) The first one for nostalgia and the other one for everything else I can think of!
