Riddle me this

OK, I'm putting this here because it has to do with a work in progress. I'm building a cart for my new Lincoln MIG setup. Right now my problem is that I don't currently have a bottle (welding with flux core). In trying to leave a proper sized space in the back of the cart, I've realized I'm not sure how much space I should leave, lol. I more than likely won't ever be dragging around a full size gas tank, but mainly the half sized ones (please excuse the newb description, I'm not sure what volumes they come in). How much space should I leave in the back for a bottle? What are the common diameters?

TIA!

Re: Riddle me this

Just build somthing in the 12 inch range with a decent floor..
Remember to have a tank tie off chain up high on the tank somewhere..
So the tank don't tip over..

...zap!

Re: Riddle me this

I think you need 9" Diameter for a 80 cubic foot tank or a 20 lb Co2. And like Zap sez, chain it or make a gate so it can't fall over and go through a block wall.

Re: Riddle me this

Have not forgotten about tank support, here is my rough design illustrated in paint Support will be angle unless something with a wider angle is needed. In that case I'll weld up my own support. It will be plenty strong, I have a habit of overbuilding everything.

Re: Riddle me this

I just finished a couple of carts for a pair of small Lincoln MIGs w/ 80cf tanks.

The tanks I have (bought from I.O.C.) are 80cf and are 7" diameter. Because I own the tanks and don't intend to exchange them, I designed the carts specifically for that size.

If you're going to be exchanging your tanks, I'd recommend building in a bit of extra clearance just in case.

Re: Riddle me this

I built an add-on to my stock Lincoln 175 MIG cart. Since I use a 20# C02 tank, I needed an 8" diameter area. I'll get out and take a picture ASAP. I think the other tanks may be 7".
