Re: Are there "Welding Snobs"?

Snobbery in welding? I'd answer that question but I'm just too cool.

Re: Are there "Welding Snobs"?

Wholy crap. This thread went all over the place. So to save time for those that do not wish to read the whole 4 pages I'll recap.

-The question "Are there welding snobs?" was posed.
-The question was answered a few times.
-Zap was the snob.
-Oh wait, no he wasn't. He's just blunt.
-Nope, he's back to a snob.
-Back to being blunt and direct.
-Comparisons to bird hunting and offroading.
-Elvis has left the building.
-Zaps trying to grope everyone.

I've only posted a few times on here but have read back through pages of threads and this is one of the most helpful boards I've ever been on.
I've not really seen anyone that slags anyone's work. Yes some have opinions on what works best and will tell you they think this, but if shown there is another way they ussually accept it.

I have learned a lot from just reading thes board and appreciate the effort that goes into running it and some of the infomative threads contained within.
I hope that once I learn more I will be able contribute more but we'll see.

Oh and to answer the origional question. Yes there are snobs in everything. The diference between the snob and someone that just has a lot of knowledge. The snob will flaunt what they know at every turn without it being of any real use to anyone. A knowledgable person will use thier knowledge to try an aid someone else.
Peace.

Re: Are there "Welding Snobs"?

Maybe your just trying to act like you know that. Maybe some people are sometimes forced to toot their own horns so the can get payed desently. Maybe sometimes some people take that one step too far and come across like a horses a-s-s. And yes occasionallly you might even run into a genuine horses butt. Question is - is he really or does he just seem like one because he's asking for too much money? Snoby can be in the eye of the beholder. What's a full of himself buttnugget to you might just be a good provider to his kids, or at least trying to be. The whole question is too gray for me to pass judgement in all but the most extreme cases. If I was to try to pull one up in my head Billy Lane charging two grand for a custom motorcycle fender comes to mind maybe but you know if he can get it who am I to pass judgement? Another time I had a welding school guy try to sell me the whole coarse rather than let me take a certification test when I'd been welding twenty years. I judged that guy, and I wasn't a customer.

Re: Are there "Welding Snobs"?

im afraid wee peggys son aint done with this one ,ive apologised to zap but when i joined this site i witnessed the same treatment handed out to elvis just now, given to another individual.my threads all have heres a bla bla thats not what i wanted ,i would have liked to explain the steps taken but that slight intimidation was in the background.loyalty to a friend is to be applauded but jes lads.by the way just to show friendship i will try my best to post a pic in some of zaps threads this may help get them up there and its probably the only place they,ll get seen *edit - unappropriate content.

LMFAO...I'd venture to say Peggy did a fine job teaching her son how to read between the lines, that hidden agenda isn't hidden from him at all

BTW, good post !!

Re: Are there "Welding Snobs"?

Closing this thread, it has run it's course and the question has been answered several times. We aren't here to bicker back and forth, we are here to talk about welding. Thanks.
