Wanted: Portaband, Local to PNW

I am looking for an electric Portaband saw. 110v/120v. I want a good brand, no knockoffs.

Looking for a good deal, not asking for a freebie, but the pawn shops ask too much for them. I won't list a price because it depends on the brand and condition.

Msg/Reply if you have one.

The Dewalt we had at work didn't last no time, it's chain drive and sucks. We have 4 milwaukees that's been abused and still work great. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

$200 for a like new Milwaukee isn't bad at all.

I caught a deal on a Chicago Electric one at Harbor Freight. I forgot the price, but I paid something like $10 for a 5yr replacement warranty. I figure if it dies after 5 years, I got my money out of it. The guy working there said he had bought one and used it putting in sprinkler piping (fulltime professional use), and swore by it. I figured I'd give it a shot...and it's been about 2-3 years, and it's working fine.

the milwaukee is a chain drive also, but they last, I have three of them.

You can buy parts direct from milwaukee off of the net at reasonable prices.

The 4 we have at work are worm gear driven.

well i guess we are both correct, there is a gear on the end of the armature that turns a worm gear that is connected to a worm gear shaft that has a small sprocket on the other end of it that turns a roller chain that turns a larger sprocket that is bolted to the blade pulley.

check them out at www.milwaukeetool.com they have complete parts breakdowns.

I've seen some Porter Cable ones at the swap meet for 60$ in my area. Just might be worth a look. Some people buy them then just never use them or find another way to do the same thing. Then they just get rid of it cheap.

Re: Wanted: Portaband, Local to PNW

Porter Cable's are good, when they wore out we replaced them with Milwaukee. My personal Milwaukee came from ebay, $75 with new bronze bushings and rubbers on the wheels.
