Victor torches
I want to get into O/A welding and someone mentioned if you buy cheap it may be the last thing you buy (ain't that true about much less dangerous things too) and it seems Victor is a pretty reliable company. I was thinking about getting one of their Heavy Duty Journeyman kits. I want to start of simple but with everything I need for light work. I will pick up some smaller tip sizes for really light work, but what have you guys used that you like?

Re: Victor torches
I have 3 Victor Journeyman torches . THEY sit unused , I much prefer using the one size smaller VICTOR "Super Range" one piece cutting torch, and a super range combo torch for light heating /gas welding. Only use the massive Journeyman , if forced to on a heavy duty job.

Re: Victor torches
Is it possible to get smaller tips for the Journeyman and use that even if it is a larger kit overall?

Re: Victor torches
I have 2 315 torches and they do all I ask of them. My purox W-300 sets come in even with them. The massive Journyman is just the ticket for what I do(heavy cutting and heating).

Re: Victor torches
The Victor 315, 2460 and SR 400 series regulators, will do everthing you will ever want to do. As far as I am concerned an Oxweld Torch and Regulators are the finest ever mfg. John

Re: Victor torches
I have two Victor Journeyman rigs. They will do everything, including small stuff with small tips (not jewelry, of course), but it's still a big, heavy torch.
As mentioned, the Super Range II torch kit from Victor seems to be much more popular these days and would really do ALMOST everything I do. It's up to you. Smith (Made by the same company as Hobart/Miller) and Harris (affiliated with Lincoln) are also excellent brands, depending on which gets the most support in your area. I've used nothing but Victors my whole life. |
