Help setting up this welder...

All,

While cleaning the shop at work I found an aluminum wire welder, "Aircomatic MIGet Welding Set", model AH-20L1 gun, AHC-P control. This thing is military surplus and it looks like it's never been used. I've questioned some of the guys at work about it and we need a power source for it. Does anyone have any idea's on what that source would be? Or what we could use to get this thing running.

Thanks,
Pool13

Hey!
I saw one on e-bay awhile back
It looked like controller with a spool gun
Should be able to run it off any CV Power source
possibly a CC power source
MK products makes something similar (maybe )
Thanks!

OK, first posting pics of the manual do not help us know what part of the many listed you have. But from a quees I would say you have what looks like a spoolgun. So you will need a power source such any any wig welder.

Hope that helps.

Re: Help setting up this welder...

Ok, I just found this thing all nicely packed away in the box in came in and it's all there. Everything in the manual photo is there, I just don't know what to use as the "power source". I work for a state govnmt agency in the Midwest, we have a lot of custom built aluminum plate boats that we use on Pool 13. Lucky for us, these boats are built in the same town we work in, but their work has become subpar and the service sucks. We got this aluminum welder that's never been used and I like to try to get this thing working.

Thanks for the help!!

Re: Help setting up this welder...

OK here we go ,use a constant current dc machine set machine on REVERSE POLARITY (VERY CRITICAL:MAKE SURE HIGH FREQUENCY IS TURNED OFF!)hook voltage sensing wire to ground wire or workpiece,,turn on powersoruce ,gas on pull trigger (gas will come on ,that' ready)turn on control bow for spool gun, push button at bottom of handlewire will feed, run about a half to three quarters of inch pull down helmetmake sure wire is touching workpiece pull triggerweld make a pass adjust wirespeed&get after it.rember on these machinec(voltage sensing type)the wire has to touch the workpiece for any thing to happen, these little units work great, carbon, aluminun,ss,part are still avail thru profax& esabHell i own three of them& they work great, even got an old westing house spool unit,(it's a steewheart also)Hope this has helped ,if you need more infi contact me here or phone816 358 3669 after530 central Rick Beaver, raytown missouri
