Wedding Cake Stand.

Ok so a buddy of mine comes by and tells me about this idea he had for a cake stand for his wedding. I told him to get the materials and let me know when he was ready. Well i let the pic's do the rest of the talking.

The base is some 1/2" steel plate i had laying around the house. The Bars are one 1.25 hex bar, two 1" hex bars, and two 1/4" twisted square bars. We used the appropriate size hex socket to attach the bars to the plate. Welded the sockets to the base and the bars just drop in. The tops are 1/8" plate welded to sockets to attach to the bars.

Re: Wedding Cake Stand.

Well, with that 1/2 inch thick steel base, I don't think it is going to get bumped over!!

Looks nice.

Now where are the close-up pics of the welds?

How 'wiggly' was the long 1/4 inch twisted bar? And why did you use the smallest cross-section bar for the longest length?

Ok, first of all, that is a really neat idea. Second, excellent execution!

Lastly, now I want a piece of cake.

Re: Wedding Cake Stand.

That's a very unique idea. I don't go to a lot of weddings, but I've been to a few over the years, and I don't think I've ever seen anything like that. Very cool.

The 1/2 base was planned for that very reason.

The 1/4 bars were not just sturdy enough to hold the cakes they were intended for. We used them for the longest length because each size bar was for each size cake (smallest cake for the smallest bar cross-section), and he wanted the smallest cake for placed the highest then going down as the cakes get bigger.
