Todays work

I have been going to do this job for a while. The truck is hard to get. Its an F450 dump that pulls an excavator to install electrical cable. Its an 88 and getting a little rusty. I replaced the motor last year.

Re: Todays work

Here is some of the other side. I ran a piece of 1/8" X 4" from one side through the middle. Made it easier and faster than the first piece.

Its 5:00, the truck is going out tomorrow, so I have this on both sides for another day when I can get the truck. I used 27 feet of 1/8" X 4" and 5' of 3/16" X 5".

Look at the welds on the previous repair. Amazing aint it?

Re: Todays work

Nice job. I'm really glad to see I am not the only one doing a lot of this type work. Very similar to all the roll off containers I have been repairing. I've actually started taking pics of my jobs when I have time. I am fixing to start on a major modification of a semi trailer and intend to take a lot of them as I go.

I'm glad to know that I wasn't the only one repairing rust damage today. Except mine was on a fertilizer spreader. I hate rust! Nice work. ~Jackson

Re: Todays work

When done, I spray the metal with Napa Ruberized undercoating. It kinda hides frame repairs I do so the DOT doesn't notice em.

Thanks for the comments. I get a LOT of that kind of stuff here. Its the salt they use on the roads. It was only the 2 cross pieces in front of the rear wheels where they throw the salt up on the box.

Fetrilizer corrosion is worse especially when its "natural" fertilizer.

YES. I guessed at 10 hours, I have 6 in it now. Probably run over a little, but I didn't realize how bad it was like usual with rusty stuff.

Good job on the corrosion.
Here in the Midwest DOT uses a lot of salt in the winter months to keep the roads drivable. It does wonders on metal!

Thank you

For the battery? Nuttin honey.

I ground the box well and went at it. You can see the vice grip ground clamp on the back in the pic post #4 pic #4. I cleaned it up with a 4.5" grinder before I hooked it up.

Re: Todays work

Zap, after I move into the bigger shop with an overhead hoist, bring it on down!

Tortis, I take most of what comes in the door. I have customers. I do what they ask. If they are too far off the wall, I say no. I enjoyed doing this except grinding the rust off. This job was done inside. Build from scratch is on thursday, stay tuned for pics.

Papa65 and ASOD, I have never had any problems. That truck is too old to have a puter.
