Lubricating transformer shunt blocks

On my Linde 300 utility welder, the shunt blocks in the transformer were very dirty. The welder had sat for some time and the sliding blocks were covered in a sticky greasy mess. The welder make alot of humming noise to my ears and I am wondering if I need to clean these and relube them. What should I lube them with? I cleaned them with contact cleaner, then let it set for some time, but I think they should have some sort of grease.

Also I need to replace the cooling fan. Any suggestions for upgrading the fan?

Thoughts?

Thanks, Doc.

NAPA (Balkamp) Sil-Glide. It's a lubricant, acts as a moisture barrier and has a high drop temperature so it'll stay where it's put and won't run or creep all over everything else.

You can get it in a moderate sized tube, so it's easy on the pocket book and can be used for a lot of small applications.

Awesome!

I already have a tube that I use for brake caliper slides.

Thanks!
