latest project

Im actually a woodworker by trade.. but i thought i would swing a little metal work into my work... here is a screendoor i made with solid alder. I have a long way to go with learning to weld better... i understand the basics but am definitally taking a pretty serious interest... these boards are awsome and thank you guys for all that i have learned so far.

Re: latest project

I like that visual effect, especially combined with the woodwork! Very nice.

???Can you provide more details as to the construction?

Re: latest project

the wood stiles and rails are solid knotty alder. everything else is 1/8 x 1/2 flatbar that i put through a small ring roller to get to the right size... everything was kinda by feel after that. the flatbar insert is thinner than the actual door so i can install a screen or a storm window inside of it. I build custom solid wood doors for people depending on what the customer wants... i would like to get into the metalworking inside the doors that is why i started this piece... i have some more designs im working on with all different types of steel.

Re: latest project

I was thinking bubbles too! Probly look even more like bubbles when it's turned up on end. Very creative.

Re: latest project

Any installed/finished pics? Looking to make my own door and, since I've never had a screen/storm door...wanna see how these get mounted in the doorframe..

I could go to Lowe's and copy them...but I gotta hand it to ya..I'd rather copy the masters...

Re: latest project

Where did you find or how did you make the rings? Pretty slick door. You had to measure the metal frame twice I bet. So you jigged it, build it and screwed it to the wood after?
