Finally!! The scooter
This is the scooter i built at school over the year.
For any of those who was around last year around this time , you may have heard me talk about building it. At that time i was playing around with a small trimmer engine to get it to work , but i basically wasted ALOT of time on that. Learn from my experience , dont waste your time with any engine that is not made for some kind of use like this. 1. Clutch will never work 2. Not very good mounts. Finally , i got it finished and working good. I finally got it home. Its got a 49 CC 2 stroke pocket bike engine , with expansion chamber exhaust pipe. It is loud , and i did figure out how fast it goes about 35 kmph. I do have some small problems here and there , but overall its good. Dont worry it will get a paint job sometime. It looks ugly , i hope you like the purple kid bike rims ![]() Back end More next post.... Last edited by David R; 06-19-2008 at 09:11 PM. Reason: Tried to fix pics, sorry. |

You are one dangerous puppy!
I wouldn't ride one of those on a bet! ![]() BTW, did you say 35 kmph? Kilo Miles Per Hour? Maybe on re-entry!!!

Re: Finally!! The scooter
The pics in the first post didn't work for me. Cool though. I am really thinking about putting a 80cc motor on my bike. I'm just trying to find the best price for the kit right now. I have seen some on Ebay for around $150 and some up to $300.
Apparently they have a top speed of around 35 miles per hour and get around 150 mpg. That's much better than my F250 Super Duty which gets around 10 mpg. I've been reading a lot about them on www.motoredbikes.com It's kind of funny looking at pics of the way some of these guys rig things up. Weldors they are not, but it's all good. Here is one of the bikes I saw that I really liked.

Re: Finally!! The scooter
The first pictures disappeared , must be some kind of time limit for attached files because of the way i did it. I cannot edit it , can someone fix that for me.
I live in K-W area. I got the engine off ebay last summer for something like 60-70$ plus shipping like 30-40$. I was thinking of going bigger engine but i looked and anything over 50cc is to heavy , not much of a point. As for how much gas it takes , i'm really not sure. I haven't gone anywhere far to say , only around the track and such. It does pretty good though. I saw a guy on a bike like that not to long ago , was going faster than i would be on the scooter. |

Re: Finally!! The scooter
How do you guys find the sprockets? And how do you go about fastening them to the bike and scooter wheels?I think this is kind of interesting. My neighbor has a bike with a motor but I believe it is electric,I'll have to check it out when he's not on night shift.

Re: Finally!! The scooter
Will do comp. I take back my comment about them not being good weldors. This guy did a good job welding the frame and tank on his bike. Sorry Bikespot for hijacking your thread. I'll stop now. Your scooter is neat!

I think if you are really good you can weld or braze a sprocket to the hub of the wheel, but I'm not sure how the heat would affect the hub. It might warp. I'm not too familiar with bicycle hubs so I'm not sure if you can disassemble it, weld it, and then reassemble it. I think the heat would affect the bearings and grease inside the hub. So what I plan to do is buy another rear wheel that is compatible with both standard rim brakes and disc brakes, then I'll use the disc brake mount to mount the sprocket to the hub. I will have to laser cut some kind of adapter plate to make it work.

I did have to bore out the center (well on the lathe) so it would fit on this flange on the regular bike sprocket , then weld it on from there. Doing it this way is not perfect , its a little wobbly but it works. Scooter wheels is from a little kids bike , 12" tires , smallest bike for children. To add to that , i didn't do anything to the back bike wheel , all i did was weld the sprocket. I just put a few Mig tacks here and there. Seems to be holding fine. Thanks Zap! I got a nice full face helmet. Now i just need a decent place to ride it where i wont get yelled at. Its pretty loud , i did find a way of making it quieter though , i just put this cloth material that came in exhaust raped around the end of the pipe. I forgot to add ... yes it only has front brakes. The reason i only have front i because there is NO space to put them at the back. Well for the type of brakes thats on the front. I might be able to put some other style on , but i would have to make a bracket. What would i do for a lever then , there already is gas on the right and brake on left side. Really it hasn't been that bad , the front ones do work. |

Re: Finally!! The scooter
I''ve heard of people putting steel wool inside the muffler to quiet it down. I'm not sure if it actually works though.

My Ski-Doo has a very small disc brake opposite the clutch.. The master cylinder is very small and you could adapt that kind of set up to the jackshaft of the engine.. There are many used sled parts places in Canada eh? Member wog820 is adapting a disc brake set-up from a Honda Motorcycle to his Railroad Speeder so it stops the rig faster than the wheel brakes.. ANYTHING is possible.. Think about it. ...zap!

It would have to go directly on the wheel for it to work , because the gear can turn freely if there is no pressure on it. Just like on a bike wheel. Quote:

I did think of something though , i think they do these on some bikes. Where the sprocket on the back wheel is used as the brake rotator. |

Re: Finally!! The scooter
No way i would ride that without my full leather track suit, boots, gloves, and helmet for the sportbike... i can see that rear wheel falling off.
it looks like something you would see in one of those trips to some third world place. |
