Just got a MillerMatic140

Just got a new MillerMatic 140. Decided to go with this one mainly because the price was right. On sale with cart for $725 (CDN), plus tax. That included the cart. Have not taken it out of the box yet as have to clear it with the wife. It is easier to get forgiveness than it is permission in this case. Looking forward to using it. Have to wire a 20 amp. circuit into the house and will run an extension out to the garage. What size wire should I use in the house and what size for the extension? Probably will need a 40 foot extension. Also what is a good welding helmet to use. Would prefer auto darkening but price will dictate. Any help or pointers would be appreciated.

First project will be a gate in galvanized for a chain link fence, or is this something I should not attempt. Will practice for a while first.
