Re: What is this ring for?
Yup - used to take up the slack between the ram and work piece so you don't have to jack all day before making contact.
60 ton is a pretty big press. Should do ANYTHING you might have to do around the house that's for sure.

Re: What is this ring for?
This is the high end model with both. Adjustable table and ram. The beauty is you don't lose any of the ram's stroke length taking up the gap to what you're pressing.

Re: What is this ring for?
My dad has an old press like that in his mechanic shop, which he enherated from my grand father. The picture dosent show the hand pump, but it should be overhead on the right side with the release valve next to it.
Its the only one like it I have ever seen until now. If the price is right buy it. It will probably out last you. Last edited by busyman; 09-24-2008 at 10:30 PM. |

Re: What is this ring for?
Make sure you use the proper V blockes when bending small plates.
If the metal is not secured properly it can squirt out and hit you in the face.

Re: What is this ring for?
My dad has one of those too. It has a handle that has a drive that dogs into the top side of the hand wheel to turn it, and a hydraulic cylinder. Its a good find.

Re: What is this ring for?
Well, I ended up picking up this monster. I also picked up a Dake 25t press. I actually got that first but it wasnt working so I got the 60ton. Two days later, I fixed the Dake, turned out someone had plugged the exhaust port - duh. Took the plug out and it works like a charm.
The 60 ton actually has two levers on the right. One is fast action and the other is slower. It also has a 5 ton manual press on the left side. It is pretty damn cool Ill probably end up selling the dake...and use the money to get a milling machine. Here are some pics: ![]() ![]() By the way, Im not a Ravens fan....That belongs to the wife. ![]()

Re: What is this ring for?
halltrail, Those are some pretty heavy-duty presses you have there.
btw, the dual levers (pumps) are not just a matter of fast and slow but the 'slow' pump allows you to achieve the 60T capabilities of that bad bear. It would be almost impossible to develop the pressure required to exert 60T of pressure with the high volume (fast) pump due to the pump-to-ram displacement ratio. Some nice lookin' gear in that shop.

Re: What is this ring for?
Duane, Thanks and you are right....Ive noticed that the "slow" one is the one that allows me to develop the higher pressure.....not necessarily move slow.... :-)
Hey Dave, I dont like to use it as a tool bench either...you caught me at a bad moment ....but if it makes you feel better....what is on there are my welding gloves, and various clamps used for welding....and I think that is the user manual on there too. Im hoping to start making a few dies/punches this weekend.
