Help with machine

Hello all,

Recently purchased a brand new Lincoln 180T off Craigslist. Wired a separate 30 Amp, 220 circuit for it, tested the outlet and made sure that it had power, then assembled the 180T per instructions on manual. After double checking all connections, I plugged it into the outlet and no power whatsoever. I tried calling Lincoln but they were already closed for business. Any suggestions on what to check? Appreciate any assistance the forum could offer.

Re: Help with machine

When you checked the outlet for 220 did you probe both hots for 220 or each to ground/neutral for 110?

Re: Help with machine

Did you confirm the 'Identity Plug Configuration' at J4 is for 230V?

And of course did you check the circuit breaker to make sure it wasn't tripped?

Re: Help with machine

I checked each to ground which read 110. The circuit breaker wasn't tripped and as far as the "Identity Plug Configuration at J4", I have no clue what you mean by this.

You need to make sure it reads 220v Hot to Hot

Re: Help with machine

Ed,

Nope, I'm not getting a 220 V reading between the two hots. What did I do wrong?

Re: Help with machine

That's where I was headed Ed.

It's probably that both sides of your breaker (in the house/shop electrical panel) is being fed from the same incoming power leg. If so, move the breaker down one slot and recheck.

J4 and plug identification configurations are shown in the electrical diagrams of your manual and determine the operating voltage.

Re: Help with machine

Thanks duaneb55,

I think that's the problem. I will move it down a slot tomorrow. Thanks for the help. I was so excited to energize my new weldor and I didn't pay attention to detail. Great forum!
