New here, needing help has anyone welded tool joints on drill pipe? I traded for some pipe and it is 30' joints i need 20' joints. Maybe cut 10' out weld it and brace it someway and use weld on tool joints on the 10' thats left. Thanks konk.

Good luck, I visited a factory where they make drill pipe and it is not done with any equipment that we have. I have been in the drilling industry for over 30 years and have never heard of anyone being able to do this. Even if you did, I would never trust the weld under and toque load what so ever. We have a yard full of old drill pipe that is cracked , bent, etc. It just gets replaced, never fixed. |

bdeditch Thanks for the reply. I'm drilling water wells 300' to500' sand, shale, limestone, sandrock. They make weld on tool joint i have never used them. I was hopeing someone had and could tell me pros & cons or what they have seen done. I see your in the oil field and understand why you just replace. Thanks Konk

Re: drill pipe
I dont know what kind of drill pipe and threads you got. But here in Boise there is a company called Drill Pro that makes drill rod, subs, and collars for me. They might be able to help you out with advice, at least if they think you might buy something from them, they can be asses if there busy though. Their number is 208-336-4970
