Re: Great video - shielding gasses
I'n no MIG meister. Can someone explain why they were using any gas for FCAW?
I was under the impression that flux-core was intended to be used without shielding gas. Rex |

Re: Great video - shielding gasses
t9 wire is a dual shield wire.

None of the T9 wires that I am familiar with will weld at all without gas. The several that I am familiar with use CO2 as their shielding gas. |

Re: Great video - shielding gasses
t9 wire will look like honeycomb or pumice if there is no gas.

Re: Great video - shielding gasses
i wish they would have done penetration samples along with that. i always loved straight co2 for doing FCAW stringers when i was putting SAW over them

Re: Great video - shielding gasses
The video says "We are sorry but this video is no longer available". Clicked on some others that scroll across the bottom. Most of them work but some say unavailable too.
Dunno but maybe the format is not supported by my Slackware Linux but I'm not curious enough to start messing with things right now.

Re: Great video - shielding gasses
The only little problem with changing gas is that it will change the physical characteristics of the weld metal. Most wire packaging will give different impact strengths and ductility values between carbon dioxide and CO2/argon mixes.
Recently I notice more attention is being given to impact strengths especially with seismic structural codes. We have been giving this more attention in colder climates for many years. Bottom line is.. results may vary. |
