Now, finally, the truth is out... you are building the boat, 'cause it's a babe magnet.

Yes that is correct. He actually didn't sail as he sailed several transoceanic routes solo in several aluminum hulls he had constructed. I was surprised so many would comment on this thread and yet no mention of his innovations.

Some of his books are very informative.

i didnt know he was into aluminium boats.
wich book have I forgot to read?

He is a really into sailing. I must say the Englishmen take care of their sailors :-) Even got one of his boats in a museum. But hey, boats should be out in the open sea not in a museum. Some countries practice floating museum boats. I kind of like such idea.

[quote=maarty;309957]If the saw blade teeth are just breaking through on the bottom of the aluminum then more teeth are simultaniously in contact with the aluminum. This will place more demand on the motor of the saw, and take longer to make a cut.

The saw is already underpowered and should be replaced with a worm drive - my preference would be a milwaukee.

Hi My old saw is close to burn out. Its too small anyway.
Do you guys have some references for saw?
I need one criteria: There must be - NO- air-intake behind the sawblade. (which some have) The small aloybits get into the airfan and rip of the fan-blades easily.

Does milwaukee fill my criteria? can one of you have a look if you have it home?
i like the worm-drive idea.

Re: alu sailboat buliding

I can't comment on the Makita saw, but we've had the Milwaukee Metal Cutting Saw for almost a year now with no complaints about it except for the saw blades. We've cut up to 1" mild steel with it (2 passes), and aluminum and it has really been a real timesaver. A real plus when using this type of saw is the lack of heat buildup in the metal - you can pick up the cut pieces with your bare hands. My only complaint has been the fragile $50-60 saw blades. If you use a guide to ride the saw against to keep the blade from binding in the cut the blades will last a long time, but if someone "free hands" a cut as carpenters do when building houses, the blade teeth will bind and easily fracture. We now save the Milwaukee blades for special cuts and buy Harbor Freight (Chinese) 7 1/4 metal cutting blades for most of our general cutting tasks. (You are near the source - can you get them cheaper there?) These blades really aren't any better and are slightly smaller diameter (7 1/4" vs 8"), but they only cost about $20 here, so it doesn't hurt the wallet as much when one of them gets trashed. With a 15 or 20% off Harbor Freight coupon they are an even better deal for us. We love the saw, but would like to have tougher or cheaper, more reliable blades for it.

Thanks for detailed reply. I checked out the makita 4131 again and the price is too steep. 800 USD.. I think milwaukee is cheaper and same quality.
I wonder. is it the milwaukee 6370 you are using?
(this:
Amazon Amazon
)
Havent found a price for this yet. it seems they are not so popular around here.

anyway, no more Metabo at least.

Don't forget to empty the cuttings often...you'll be surprised how fast they will fill the guard pocket up.

Thats for sure. So i took it off. No need for that guard pocket anyway. And good to see the blade also.

I think we need more pictures of the ladies. Oh, and the boat can be in the background too just so it's not completely off topic.

Keep up the great work!
