Lincoln Easy-Mig 180 with Magnum 100SG spool gun ?

How would this setup work for metal up to 3/8" and for thinner Aluminum ?
Almost all of my beads will be quite small and much of the welding will be simple tack welds.... I was curious if anyone else has the same or has used a similar setup ?

What typically can one weld in Aluminum with such a spool gun ? I am also very curious about how the aluminum spool gun compares with a 'mid line' TIG machine ?

Cheers,

/Jman...

Only Mid line Tig with AC would be a Miller Diversion 165- about 1,300.00

Here is a thread on the Lincoln Spool Gun

http://weldingweb.com/showthread.php...coln+spool+gun

but note he has the Power Mig C

Are the two not the same ? I assumed that both were "C" and that the MIG PAK was "T".
Have I got it wrong ?

Only model that is Continuous Voltage selection is the C model

Power Mig 140C
Power Mig 180C

ALL other models are Tapped Voltage section

SP 180t
MigPak
Easy Mig
etc

CRAP !

Well that's not what I wanted.... I would prefer the continuous voltage vs the Tapped. Especially since I want to foray into Aluminum. Maybe I should just suck it up and go to a TIG machine ! I'm joining a lot of dissimilar metals with my torch now anyway.... I know the cost is going to be a lot higher but maybe I'm better off. Problem is, I don't know squat about TIG machines. Any suggestions ?

It comes down to $$ and how thick you need to go

Re: Lincoln Easy-Mig 180 with Magnum 100SG spool gun ?

Well,

Thickness isn't really an issue for the stuff I do. I would like to do some thicker Aluminum but most of that would be tacked into place as NONE of it would be load bearing or stressed in any way as it would be mostly ornamental / Artwork.

I see that Miller has a new unit out called the "Diversion 165". I found some decent pricing around the city and thought it might be perfect for what I need it for....

Most of my stuff:

20 gauge to 3/16" steel sheet / plate
20 gauge to 1/8" Aluminum
22 gauge to 1/8" Copper and Brass / Bronze
Square and round stock in both copper, stainless and mild steel

Cheers,
