New old welder

Hello!

I haven't used a welder in a long time! Used to do okay with an stick welder.
I am looking at getting a new welder for some genreal farm work and to start my teenagers out.

Any suggestions on a good entry level welder/

Thanks & God bless!

Re: New old welder

Welcome to the forum coachcraig! General farm work covers a lot of territory. Will it be a stationary welder, or will it need to be mobile? I'm an old stick welder and I'm partial to the Lincoln SA 200. But it's a DC only welding machine and very large and heavy for a lot of peoples uses. Trailer or truck mounted with an oxy-actelyne set up it's great for field work, but in an enclosed shop there are drawbacks, fumes and noise for sure. A good 220v crackerbox or better is best suited for shop work, but has drawbacks for field work. There are many things to consider, I'd stay away from the 110v welders if you'll be doing REAL repair or fabrication. There is a lot of discussion on the forum here about different brand names and different types of welders. Feel free to browse thru what's already here, decide what you'll need and go from there. Ask questions, there is always someone here with a suitable answer. There are several farmers on the forum and several welders that deal with farm equipment and implements. Enjoy!

Re: New old welder

Hi Ya coachcraig and Welcome to the Welding Web FamilyWell since you have a history with a stick welder you might want to stick with the stick. It's also one of the easiest welders to teach to others.
