Max depth cut test ForceCut 80
This is a test of the maximum depth of cut with my Longevity ForceCut 80 plasma cutter.
I had it set to 80 amps and 105 PSI. I used a roller guide but had one roller slightly lower than the other causing the cut to be at a slight angle. I managed a clean 1.75 inch cut. I wonder if I can get 2" if I increase the air to 120PSI. I might try that later. Dan

Re: Max depth cut test ForceCut 80
isnt the object of cutting is severing the material,if you hold the torch in one spot long enough you can melt down pretty deep, what did the consumables look like after that?

Re: Max depth cut test ForceCut 80
Consumables were not too bad. The purpose of this cut was to see how far it would penetrate.

Re: Max depth cut test ForceCut 80
Gadget,
Was that supposed to be an endorsement for the 80A cutter? I never did see the cut "drop". That had to be about the worst plasma cutting "technique" I've ever seen demonstrated.(back and forth). Looked like you were trying to cut it with a fire breathing hack saw. If I had a piece of scrap 2" thick, I'd show you what a sever cut with an 80A plasma cutter (Hypertherm PM 1250) is supposed to look like. I'll see if I can find a few pieces of 1" material and stack them. I'd light up the fire ax before I tried cutting with that thing. You wern't cutting. You were melting.

Re: Max depth cut test ForceCut 80
Again, not much of an endorsement and that is not a cut, its a severance. Why would you want to show such bad technique?
I got similar results with my PowerMax 45 shown in this thread http://weldingweb.com/showthread.php?t=30407 but with a cleaner action ( not back and forth ). My machine was set to the correct PSI and not overdriven. Consumables i still use today. |

Re: Max depth cut test ForceCut 80
Our 80amp unit is advertised to cut up to 1.5" anything more is a positive. Thanks for the video Gadget. Do not mind the criticism. The product, warranty, and service speaks for itself.
ps: The plasma is sufficiently hot to melt the metal being cut and moves sufficiently fast to blow molten metal away from the cut. The plasma arc does just that it melts the metal away! Thanks for the video. Longevity

Re: Max depth cut test ForceCut 80
You could cut that a lot faster and a lot neater with a sawzall.

Re: Max depth cut test ForceCut 80
I can tell you that those wheels have way too much stand off. Most plasmas operate most efficiently at 1/16-1/8 inch standoff. That appears to be about 1/4 or more.

Re: Max depth cut test ForceCut 80
I believe they are adjustable. I will have to check. They are supposed to give 1/8inch standoff. Dan if you read this please post the standoff height you had.

Re: Max depth cut test ForceCut 80
I had 1/16" standoff for the cut. The rollers have about 3/16" adjustment to them.
