Hobart Mig Aluminum

So my shop has a 250 Hobart Ironman with a spoolgun attachment. its not the specific gun designed for the machine but it works, a former student modified the machine to make it run the spoolgun. so get everything hooked up and cant figure out how to switch the machine to AC.

anybody ever mig aluminum with a hobart?? cause in need to figure out how to switch the polarity. the machine's inside panel has all the settings for aluminum, just doesnt say how to take it off of DC.

any suggestions?

Re: Hobart Mig Aluminum

MIG doesn't use AC for alum. But I don't know whether you need DCEN or DCEP, someone will add that for me.

100% argon.

Re: Hobart Mig Aluminum

It runs DC+, just like a standard mig with gas. You need to crank up the heat and wire speed compared to similar thicknesses in steel, push the gun and run 100% argon.
