SA200 new armature

Was looking to upgrade my machine to a 200. Found one here local for 1500 said its been completly redone but it needs an armature. Makes me wonder if it was redone or just painted but i was wondering how much a new armature was and how hard they are to put in?

Re: SA200 new armature

I don't think an armature is too hard to put in it's just a matter of knowing the steps of breaking down the machine. If it needs an armature then it wasn't refurbished. I'm guessing probably just cleaned up and painted. I personally wouldn't pay 1500 for an SA that wouldn't weld especially one needing an armature. I bought mine for $600 and it was running and welding fine. I sent plenty in that price range that run and weld an only needs some tinkering and paint. For a price on an armature I would call Kaye at Bill's Welder repair. Do a google for it and you'll find the site.

Re: SA200 new armature

here's another place you can check as far as parts go.

http://www.hybriweld.com/shopdisplay...&cat=Armatures

The armature is not bad. I got an sa200 scattered in the shop. I was told I needed a huge two jaw puller to get the main generator housing off. You don't, I used a brass punch and a 3 pound sledge. I just worked around the housing on the heavy bars working it off the main bearing. Maybe not the "technical" way to do it but turned wrenches for 18 years and was not spending a small fortune on a two jaw puller for a one time use.

I don't think I'd pay $1500 for it either. A friend of mine picked one up for $1000 and it runs/welds great.

Re: SA200 new armature

I saw this too and wondered as to the "completely redone" if it still needs repair. E-mailed the owner to ask if it needs the exciter or main generator armature. The exciter is easier than the main which is more expensive.

Re: SA200 new armature

Received some photos of the unit. SUPER clean and well done but it's the main armature. Potential big additional $$$.

Re: SA200 new armature

From reading at a couple other sites I think some of the guys selling these things for those high prices think they are still on top of the wave from a year or two ago and what they could fetch for them then is what they can get now, which according to some is not the case anymore.
