Re: Esab

From what I can tell, its an upgraded migmaster 250.

The features, arrangement and controls are all set up the same. The Migmaster 250 is rated at 280 amps with 250 amps @ 50% duty cycle.

Re: Esab

Before you buy take a look at this machine also https://www.mythermadyne.com/thc/en/...bName=OverView

I'm not pushing the Thermal Arc machine over the ESAB. A friend bought one of these a few months back. Seems to me it had more features like trigger interlock, spot/stitch timer etc. for about the same money.

My friend reports to me that it has worked & welds fine.. I trust his review also, he has worked as a welder & used all th big name machines Red, Blue, Gold, Yellow

Re: Esab

Ok thanks guys. I am relatively new to the mig world but have picked it up pretty quick and doing well I think. Good friend of mine who is a certified welder for grove crane says my welds would pass x-ray (well most of the). But I am outgrowing the little hobart 140 that I have pretty quick. The duty cycle is like 20% at 90 amps so I weld for a bit and it starts to splatter and get pinholes then shuts down for like 10 mins to cool off and I am looking at doing a lot of welding in the very near future would really like to have something that will handle continuos at like 160 - 170 so if the 250 is 60% at 250 that would probably even fit the bill. What are all the bells and whistles for the pulse modulation and spot and stitch stuff

Re: Esab

Don't be afraid of Esabs. I just had a new 250+ go up in smoke while under warranty and Esab replaced it FAST with a Multimaster 260. They are top notch units.

Re: Esab

FWIW, the reason the 250+ went up in smoke was most likely due to shipping damage. They said it sounded like it had a cracked transformer core or something like that. So it was damage, not quality.

Looks like a pretty nice machine (for my limited experience) but has a lot of options I see listed on the big name brand wleders plus a few. Where would I get a price. The only thing I noticed and maybe its just me not understanding but the low setting is 80IPM that seems awfully fast to me my normal settings are 30 to 40 IPM at 140 amps which is where a lot of my stuff is ranging right now. that thing would go through some wire

I'm glad because I'm buying one. I took a welding class earlier this year and the instructor said that ESAB is one of the nicest running machines he ever used. I believe the plumbers welding school runs ESAB. In the class we used the Miller XMT 304 CC/CV machines, they're also very good.

Re: Esab

I use the XMT 304 machines too...no comparison to ESAB. The XMT 304's are good solid machines, but nothing compares to the ESAB's charachteristics.
