Can I make it?
Want to say hello first off, my question is how hard will it be to get into local 798 as a helper? Im 32 years old single and been in the construction industry as a operator local 965 for 12 years, did allot of general welding useing 7018, 6011 rod maitaining milling machines and other equipment, work is really slowed down the past 5 years. I have also completed cmmercial divie training and have my adci card and whenin training welded underwater on different pipe and plate. Working the pipeline is something that I really want to try and be successful at and would appreciate any guidance and help from anyone. Thanks for your time...Jake

Re: Can I make it?
You don't have a location listed, so maybe nobody knows where Local 798 is.
Have you called them to see if there any apprenticeship openings? Rex |

http://www.798makeupandhair.com/ Assuming you're talking about the Pipeliners, go talk to them and ask them if they have any suggestions for going to a school. Reason I say that is, I just got done with a TIG welding course and was talking about going back for pipe, the instructor mentioned how one guy that just got done training there got into the pipewelders union and because of the school he went to they knocked 3 years off his time he needs to be a helper. They said they knew what kind of welds he'd be putting out but they still needed to give him 2 years as a helper to teach him proper fit up & such. |

Re: Can I make it?
There are alot of helpers that are out of work right now. This year has been slow, really slow, it's even been pretty rough for welders but the website is www.local798.org they've got applcations on there print one out fill it out and send it to Tulsa and see what they say. Good luck is all I can say.
