Welding Table Project

I decied to go ahead and make myself a welding table. My plan is to make it foldable/ portable. So my plan is to use a foldable work bench/sawhorse table and pull the wood top off and add my metal top. i had some 3/16 plate laying around for the top.(yes 3/16 is small but most of the welding done on this table will be light/ lower amps) Ok here we go....

Pic1- Materials, Had two pieces of 3/16 plate. They had to be welded together for the tabletop. Also i beveled both sides since ill be using a 120v.

Pic2- Tacked Up

Pic3- Temporary bracing to help controll warping

Pic4- The setup, Hf inverter scratch start maxed out at 80 amps, backside of plate will be tigged (beval is smaller on back)

Pic5- Tig all done. Sorry only pic i got. ive had better days using this tig but they didn't turn out bad.

Re: Welding Table Project

2nd post......

Pic- backside of tig to show penetration. not bad....

Pic2- Now on to the front side of the plate. My beval was alittle too big. Used lincoln weld pak .035 lincoln innershield wire, using the back step method

Pic3- All welded up

Pic4- Weld ground down, Beval was too big so i coulden't get it filled in one pass

Pic5- More fun.... Hooked up the stinger and did another pass with lincoln 6013 aorund 75 amps. fun fun..

Re: Welding Table Project

3rd post....

Pic1 Stick welding all done.

I ground it all down again and the seam is perfect now. Still warped alittle, o well can't win everytime. Hopefully tomorrow ill start on the angle frame to set this top on. It should also help straighten up the warpage.
Thanks for looking, happy new year!1

Shane

Re: Welding Table Project

As thin as that is, I would try a little dry washing on the back side to draw it back. Looks good man, what's about the legs?

Re: Welding Table Project

So here it is. The reason i made this is because when i tig on my work bench i always had to find scrap plate to set my projects on because my bench is wood. Now i just set this down on top and tig on this and not have to worry about burning the wood. Also tig is ONLY done on this table (due to fire reasons) And i can even set it on top of my portable folding work table and mig and such on there. Heres the pics to show.

Thanks for viewing!!!

Re: Welding Table Project

Is that SIX measuring tapes I see? Were you using the 3-4-5 squaring method, or do you just like to collect tapes?
