is there an adapter to go from welder plug to dryer plug?

i have my garage set up with a 220 regular 3 prong, 3 wire outlet. is there a way to go from that to a dryer plug? they are both 220 just different breakers. i have 2 jobs at family members houses and was wondering if i could tap into their dryer plug and change the breaker while i was there rather than messing around with the plugs. is this possible and is there such an adapter. pics would be great if so or an old thread. thanks.

You shouldn't need to change the breaker unless you really need more than 30amps

Dryer should be 30amps.

hi,you could buy a dryer cord with male plug end that matches the wall outlet, a electrical box mount female outlet that matches your male plug, box connector for cord , and mount it to electrical box. you then have dryer plug on cord and your outlet in electrical box.it would be a real short 220 extension cord. Cheapest way to make it.BOB

hi, depending on how your machine is wired you could save some money by wiring the dryer cord to your machine .Some machines it will take forever to remove screws to replace cord. hope it works out.

Re: is there an adapter to go from welder plug to dryer plug?

Changing the breaker is not a good idea. The breaker is sized to the wire supplying the receptacle, more than likely #10 for 30 amps. Additionally, the receptacle itself is only designed for 30 amps.If you replace the breaker with a higher value, the wire running through the walls could potentially catch fire before the breaker pops. This is not likely, but I sure wouldn't want to try and explain to the relatives / fire inspector / insurance company why I thought it would be OK to oversize a breaker after the fire.

I would leave the breaker alone, and try the welder with it as is. Chances are you won't be running the machine at it's max setting, so you will probably be drawing less than 30 amps anyhow.

i would leave a 30 amp breaker, but you know how some people like to do their own wiring. i would only change it if it was too big of a breaker. you know how people are with breakers that dont know what they are doing "bigger is better". i am more worried about my welder.

If your machine is small enough to take to your neighbors house, you probably won't be pulling more than the 30 amps supplied. Also, make the pigtail adapter yourself. Much cheaper.
